No. 3 Buckeyes Topple No. 20 Northwestern with a Dominant Sweep

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 3 Ohio State men’s tennis team moved to 17-2 with its 4-0 victory over Big Ten opponent No. 20 Northwestern. The Buckeyes are now 26-1 vs. Northwestern with today marking the 21st consecutive win over the Wildcats.
The Buckeyes opened Big Ten play at 2-0 on the weekend after their win over Illinois on Friday.
In doubles, James Trotter and Andrew Lutschaunig set the pace early on. They finished first on court three with a dominant 6-1 win; this duo is 4-0 on the season. Top ranked doubles team, Matej Vocel and Robert Cash took an early 5-2 lead. After defending a two-point Northwestern rally, Vocel and Cash sealed the doubles point with a 6-4 win on court one.
In singles, the Buckeyes kept the momentum going with three straight sets victories to clinch the 4-0 sweep. Vocel sped through his match and finished with a quick 6-3, 6-2 victory. James Trotter finished soon after with a similarly dominant performance also winning 6-3, 6-2. With the Buckeye lead at 3-0, it was a race to seal the final point of the day between JJ Tracy and Jake Van Emburgh. Both had big leads at 6-3, 5-1 and 6-4, 5-1 respectively. Jake Van Emburgh got it done first and finished 6-4, 6-1 to clinch the win over Northwestern.
The Buckeye’s next match is against Indiana next Friday at 3 P.M. in Bloomington.
