
Buckeyes Fall Short at Second-Ranked Sooners

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 6 Ohio State men’s gymnastics team fell short at No. 2 Oklahoma on Saturday night by a 408.400-399.050 margin.
Trevor Cummings earned the first of the Buckeyes’ two event wins by tying his career-high (14.600) on pommel horse. Domenic Sciulli earned a career-high 13.850 on parallel bars. Ohio State finished in the top-two spots on rings with Donovan Hewitt earning the event title (14.000).
How it Happened
Floor
Ohio State began the meet with its second-highest team score of the season (68.300). Kameron Nelson led the team with a 14.300 and a runner-up finish, just 0.050 less than his career-best. Jesse Tyndall (13.950) and Kazuki Hayashi (13.650) finished third and fourth overall. Jakob Murray scored a 13.250, while Dexter Roettker rounded out the Buckeyes’ lineup with a 13.150.
Pommel Horse
Cummings won the pommel horse competition by tying his career-best score (14.600) that he set earlier in the season. Andrew Brower earned a 13.550 and Curtis Chang earned a 13.450. Also representing the Buckeyes on pommel horse were Luke Smigliani (13.000) and Tyndall (12.150).
Rings
Ohio State earned the top two scores on rings with Donovan Hewitt picking up the event win (14.000) and Tyndall finishing second (13.800). Nelson recorded a 13.150, while Arthur Ashton (12.500) and Smigliani (12.450) also competed on rings.
Vault
Three Buckeyes earned at least a 14.000 on vault as Roettker led the team with a 14.250 and a top-three overall finish. Hayashi (14.150) and Nelson (14.000) also scored at least 14 points. Hewitt and Murray rounded out Ohio State’s scores with 13.900 and 13.450, respectively.
Parallel Bars
Sciulli’s career-best 13.850 on parallel bars led the Buckeyes and finished second overall. Brower followed with a 13.450. Hayashi (12.950) and Tyndall (12.800) finished back-to-back, while Christian Bartolini wrapped up Ohio State’s showing with a 10.550.
High Bar
The Buckeyes wrapped up the meet with their second-highest team score of the season (64.750) on high bar. Hayashi led the team with a 13.750, just 0.050 shy of his career-high, earning a top-three finish. Tyndall posted a 13.700 to finish right behind Hayashi. Roettker scored a 13.050, while Hewitt had a 12.950 and Sciulli an 11.300.

Head Coach Rustam Sharipov: “It was a good learning experience for the team competing out here in Norman. We had some guys who stepped up to fill in the gaps and I’m proud of how they handled it. We are happy to be back at home next weekend as we celebrate our six seniors on Sunday, March 20 vs. Nebraska.”
