
Buckeyes to Compete for CCFC Championships Sunday

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State fencing team is in Evanston, Ill., where it will compete for Central Collegiate Fencing Conference championships Sunday in Welsh-Ryan Arena.
The day consists of five rounds of team matches. The women will face Wayne State, Lawrence, Denison, Cleveland State and Northwestern, with the men taking on Wayne State, Lawrence and Cleveland State.

The CCFC
- This is the second year of the CCFC. Last year’s champions were determined by winning percentage during the regular season against conference opponents (maximum two matches per opponent).
- This season, the champions will be determined by team and squad victories Sunday.
- In the inaugural season, Ohio State claimed three outright championships and shared four titles. The Buckeye men won the men’s team championship and the women shared the women’s team title with Northwestern. Buckeye men’s sabre and women’s epee won squad titles, while men’s epee, men’s foil and women’s sabre were co-champions.
- This year, the Buckeye men and women are both are 6-0 against CCFC teams.

- The Ohio State men are 24-6 on the year, with the women 24-8.
- This is the Buckeyes’ second trip to Evanston, Ill., this season. The squad competed in the Northwestern Winter Duals Feb. 4-5. The men were 9-0 in the event, with the women 9-1. The men’s foil and epee squads were undefeated, with sabre 8-1 over the two days. For the women, sabre and foil were 9-1, with epee 8-2.
- Foilist Alina Lee leads the Buckeye women with 60 wins in dual competition. Eva Mazur leads the women’s epee squad with 42 victories and Julieta Toledo has a sabre squad best 45 victories.
- For the men, foilist Nathan Wriedt is first with 46 victories. Paul Veltrup leads epee with 33 and Roscoe Swartz has 38 to lead the sabre squad.
- The men’s epee squad has compiled 174 victories, with foil recording 168 and sabre notching 156. On the women’s side, foil has a team-best 194, with epee recording 170 and sabre 169.

NCAA Regional Coming to Columbus
- Ohio State will play host to the NCAA Midwest Regional March 12 in French Field House. The event is a qualifier for the NCAA Championships, which will be held March 24-27 at Castellan Family Fencing Center in Notre Dame, Ind.
- Teams expected to be represented in the regional tournament are Ohio State, Notre Dame, Lawrence, Denison, Cleveland State, Wayne State and Detroit Mercy.
- Fencers who qualify will advance to the NCAA Championships, set for March 24-27 at Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind.
