COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 2 Ohio State women’s hockey team kicks off the postseason this weekend, hosting St. Cloud State in the quarterfinals of the WCHA playoffs. The Buckeyes earned the No. 2 seed after finishing the regular season second with a conference record of 21-5-0 while the Huskies closed the regular season seventh in the league with a 4-20-3 record in WCHA games.
The quarterfinal matchup is a best two-of-three series. Puck drop is set for 6 p.m. Friday, 3 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday, if needed, from the OSU Ice Rink. Streaming of the playoff games between the Buckeyes and Huskies will be available on B1G+ ($).
This weekend’s games will be ticketed. Single-game and two-game ticket deals are available online and can also be purchased at the ticket office located at the southeast corner of St. John Arena. Parking for women’s hockey games is free.
Buckeyes in a Nutshell
- Along with the No. 2 seed in the WCHA tournament, Ohio State is ranked second nationally in both the USCHO.com and USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine polls. The Buckeyes are receiving 138 points, and three first-place votes, in the USCHO poll and 147 points in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll.
- Ohio State’s 25 wins this season are a program record. The previous season-high victories for the Buckeyes were 24 in the 2019-20 and 2017-18 seasons.
- Following a three-goal weekend against Wisconsin, Kenzie Hauswirth earned her first WCHA honor of her career with the title of Forward of the Week. Hauswirth scored both Buckeye goals in the team’s 2-1 win over the Badgers to secure the sweep. She also tallied Ohio State’s final goal in the 5-1 game one win over Wisconsin.
- Sophie Jaques earned her eighth WCHA Defender of the Week honor following Ohio State’s series sweep of Wisconsin. She scored her 10th power play goal of the season in the Buckeyes’ first game against the Badgers and was on the ice for four of the team’s five goals in the game.
- Sophie Jaques, Paetyn Levis and Liz Schepers lead the Buckeyes with 18 goals each. Jaques takes the lead in assists (35) and points (53).
- Amanda Thiele is 12-3-0 in goal for Ohio State this year. The sophomore has made 329 saves and owns a .940 save percentage this season.
Notable Notes
- Ohio State is 14-2-0 at the OSU Ice Rink this season.
- The Buckeyes own a nation-leading .350 power play percentage. The team has scored 28 power play goals on 80 attempts this season.
- With a record of 25-4-0 this year, Ohio State owns the best win percentage (.806) in the WCHA and ranks second nationally.
- Liz Schepers has scored two or more points in six of the last seven games, including four goals in the team’s last meeting against St. Cloud State.
- Amanda Thiele leads the conference in win percentage (.800), save percentage (.940) and goals against average (1.273).
- Over the course of 31 games, Ohio State has proved to be consistent in scoring throughout all 60 minutes, scoring 50 goals in the first and second periods and 51 in the third.
- Jenn Gardiner and Gabby Rosenthal are tied for fifth in program history with three goals during a single postseason run. Schepers is tied for sixth with 11 postseason points for her career while Gardiner is tied for eighth with five postseason goals in two postseason campaigns for her career.

- Buckeye blueliner Sophie Jaques is one of the top point producers in the NCAA this season.
- She has a +43 entering the postseason and has been on ice for over half of Ohio State’s 152 goals this season.
- Jaques has scored the most points by a true defenseman in nine seasons. With 53 points, she is third behind Megan Bozek of Minnesota with 57 points in the 2012-13 season and Angela Ruggiero of Harvard with 83 points in the 2002-03 season.
- Jaques is first in the NCAA in assists per game (1.13) and ranks second in points per game (1.71) this year. She is tied for first in the country with 10 power play goals this year.
- Her 53 points on the year places her at third in the country this season. The senior is just seven points behind the leader with three less games played.
- Jaques took the Ohio State record for points in a single season by a defenseman in the Buckeye’s series at Minnesota State on Feb. 4-5.
- A civil engineering major from Toronto, Ont., Jaques she became the 14th Ohio State Buckeye to record 100 career points on Feb. 12. In 122 games as a Buckeye, she has averaged 0.828 points per game for her career.
Ohio State in the WCHA Playoffs
- The Buckeyes are 27-35-0 in the WCHA tournament in program history.
- Ohio State won its first Final Faceoff trophy in 2020 with a 1-0 overtime win over Wisconsin.
- This year marks the fifth season the Buckeyes have hosted their quarterfinal matchup of the conference playoffs.

- Sophie Jaques and Liz Schepers have both broken into the top-10 in career assists by a Buckeye. Jaques, who has 68 helpers for her career, ranks tied for ninth while Schepers is tied for eighth with 70.

History vs. St. Cloud State
- The Buckeyes and Huskies have met three times this season, including twice in Columbus.
- Ohio State is undefeated against St. Cloud State this year and owns a 52-30-10 record over the Huskies in the all-time series.
- In the teams’ second matchup of the year, Ohio State scored a program record 10 goals and recorded a program-high 29 points in the win.
- The programs have met eight times in the WCHA tournament to date. The last time the Buckeyes faced the Huskies in the postseason was 2008.
Buckeyes in the Classroom
- Fifteen members of the women’s hockey program have earned WCHA All-Academic Team honors, the conference announced Wednesday.
- This Buckeyes All-Academic Team honorees represent every student-athlete who met the one-year attendance at their current institution requirement by the conference. The honor is awarded to student-athlete who have maintained at least a 3.00 GPA over the last two semesters.
- In addition, 14 players earned WCHA Scholar-Athlete honors for achieving GPAs of 3.50 or higher.
2022 Winter Olympics
- Emma Maltais, Natalie Spooner and Team Canada took gold on Wednesday night. The pair earn Ohio State women’s hockey’s fourth gold medal and 11th podium finish overall.
- Jincy Dunne earned silver in her Olympic debut for Team USA.
- Minttu Tuominen and Team Finland won the bronze medal match against Switzerland on Wednesday morning. The medal is Tuominen’s third of her Olympic career.
- Switzerland’s Andrea Braendli backstopped her team to a fourth-place finish.
