
Edwards, Harris Tabbed B1G Gymnasts to Watch

COLUMBUS, Ohio – As the Ohio State women’s gymnastics team readies for the 2023 season, senior Elexis Edwards and freshman Payton Harris have been named Big Ten Gymnasts to Watch by the conference office. The Buckeyes were picked third in the preseason conference coaches poll announced by the Big Ten on Wednesday.
Edwards, who earns the preseason honor for the second consecutive season, is coming off a successful 2022 season during which she finished 15th overall at the NCAA Championships on vault. She scored a career best 9.950 at the Auburn Regional to advance to the national championship meet.
The senior earned seven individual event titles last year, including three on vault and floor and one on uneven bars during the regular season. Edwards led the team on vault (9.950) and floor (9.950) during the 2022 campaign. Overall, she helped the Buckeyes to a program-record NCAA regional score (196.925). She also garnered second team All-Big Ten honors.
Harris, from Franklin, Wis., will compete in her first collegiate season this year. Prior to joining the Buckeyes, she finished third on vault and in the all-around at the 2022 Nationals. She also earned top-10 finished on uneven bars, balance beam and floor at the Development Program National Championships. Harris is the 2021 state champion on uneven bars and 2021 national runner up on floor.
The Buckeyes were picked to finish third in the conference, behind first-place Michigan and second-place Michigan State.
Ohio State will host its annual Scarlet & Gray meet this Friday at 6:30 p.m. in the Covelli Center. Admission is free and paid parking is available in the Buckeye Lots. The team officially opens the 2023 season on Jan. 8 with a quad meet against Kentucky, Arizona and Greenville.
