Ohio State players met with the media after practice to discuss team progress as they prepare to return to the Shoe to face the Indiana Hoosiers on Saturday.
On his success running the ball on Saturday:
“It’s probably surprising to everybody else, but I run a lot at practice. It’s one of those situations where I get so used to keeping my eyes down the field, so the weather situation this past week forced me to make my reads a little quicker and then just get going which was helpful.”
On the matchup against Indiana:
“I think this is a week for us to get our groove back throwing the ball and to be effective in the run game some more. We can clean up some reads, make it more clean and get some more yards. We want to be better on first and second and then of course we’ve got to be better on third down.”
On being hard on himself after mistakes:
“I think Michael Jordan said that he missed 26 game winning shots, but he made many more. As long as you’re up there and giving it your all that’s the only thing I can really be happy with.”
On finding resolve through adversity:
“It’s not always in your control. You can’t always be perfect. It’s about finding a way to win, no matter if it’s ugly or cute.”
On dealing with difficult weather against Northwestern last weekend:
“You gotta make the plays even in the midst of the weather… we learned a lot from that game.”
On CJ Stroud’s impact on the team:
“We go as he goes. He has the arm talent to make plays through every throw. Seeing him make plays through the ground ignites the whole team.”
On his goals moving forward:
“I’m just taking it one game at a time… I’m just trying to go out there and make plays for my teammates, have fun, and win the game.”
“We’re going into games with one mindset; set one goal and that’s to win. Is there stuff to correct? Most definitely. We go into games to win. We’ll look at the film on Sunday and will dissect the film to get better at the things we need to better.”
On the weather & game play changes at Northwestern:
You can train all week for something and then you come out there Saturday and you get a whole new look, a whole new scheme. You gotta be able to adjust and at this level. I think it’s even bigger the higher you go, the more you’ve got to adjust.
On looking ahead this season:
“For us it’s attacking every week like it’s 0-0 and we’re going out to win and survive and advance.”
On building toughness on the offensive line:
“I think we’ve built a lot of toughness from where we were at last year. It’s every week, it doesn’t stop, there isn’t a line of how tough we need to be. Every week is being tough and showing up every day. Every week it’s coming in trying to be tougher.
