COLUMBUS, Ohio – Fittingly, Ohio State's seniors led the way to a Senior Day win on Sunday at Buckeye Varsity Field. The Buckeyes finished the regular season with a 4-0 shutout of Ball State, upping their record to 11-7. The Cardinals are 7-11 on the season.
The Short Story
Three of Ohio State's four goals were scored by seniors – Emma Goldean, Leanne Bough and Sarah Charley. The fourth and final goal of the afternoon came from Hanna Killeen, her first of the season.
Much of the game was played on Ohio State's end of the field, as the Buckeyes outshot Ball State 24-2, including 11-0 in the second half. Abby Danson did not make a save but did register her sixth shutout of the season.
How It Happened
- After a scoreless first quarter, Goldean scored for the fifth time this season when she cleaned up a rebound in front of the goal. Her shot came from the left side of the goal and slid past Ball State keeper Ally Butler.
- Less than a minute into the third quarter, Bough increased Ohio State's lead to 2-0 when she collected a failed clear and shot off a defenders stick with Butler out of the cage. It was Bough's eighth goal of the season and her second of the weekend.
- Charley netted her team-leading 11th goal of the season in the 35th minute as she redirected an entry pass from Claudia Thomas and shot in from the right side of the cage.
- Killeen's goal, unassisted in the 53rd minute, came when she worked around a defender and shot over Butler, who was on her back.
