Jack Anthrop’s run came to a close in the semifinals on Monday afternoon as he fell in three sets to Andrew Fenty. The first set was on serve at 4-4 before Fenty claimed the next two games to take the opening set. In the second, Fenty raced out to a 4-1 lead and was looking to cruise home before Anthrop rallied. He got back square at 4-4 and then went on to win the set 7-5, forcing a deciding set. In the third set, the veteran Fenty took over and would win 6-2.
Good tournament for Anthrop as he claimed three victories, including a pair over rival Illinois players on their home court.

Sunday at the ITA Midwest Regional Championship in Champaign saw freshman Jack Anthrop reach the singles semifinals and the doubles team of JJ Tracy and Andrew Lutschaunig bow-out in the doubles semis.
Anthrop advanced by walkover in the round of 16 and then took on Illinois’ Alexander Petrov in the quarterfinals. After losing the opening set 7-5, Anthrop took over. He won the next two sets 6-2 to advance to the semis where he will take on Andrew Fenty of Michigan.
JJ Tracy won a three-set match over Michigan State’s Ozan Baris 6-3, 5-7, 7-6(3) in the round of 16 but fell in his quarterfinal match to Gavin Young 6-3, 6-0.
Tracy then joined Lutschaunig on Sunday evening for a doubles semifinal match against Fenty and Gavin Young. The Buckeyes dropped the first set in a tiebreaker but rallying to blitz the Michigan duo 6-0 in the second. That setup a super-tiebreak for the match. Tracy and Lutschaunig led 7-4 in the final breaker Fenty and Young won the next six points to take the match in three sets.

Saturday was a good day for the Buckeyes in Champaign. They went 6-1 in singles action and the doubles team of JJ Tracy and Andrew Lutschaunig advanced to the semifinals.
The doubles quarterfinals kickoff the day and Tracy and Lutschaunig had little trouble moving on, beating the Wisconsin duo of Sebastian Vile and Robin Parts 8-3.
The first two rounds of the singles draw were then contested in the afternoon. Tracy, who is the top-seed, defeated Iker Gaztambide Arrastia of Northern Illinois 6-2, 6-0 and then rolled past Wisconsin’s Gabriel Huber 6-4, 6-2. He will face Michigan State’s Ozan Baris on Sunday.
Lutschaunig started his singles run with a convincing 6-1, 6-0 win over Western Michigan’s Arjun Honnappa before besting Notre Dame’s Connor Fu 6-3, 7-6(2) in the round of 32. He’ll take on Illinois’ Hunter Heck on Sunday.
Freshman Jack Anthrop started his tournament on Saturday with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Illinois State’s Nam Pham. He then took on Kenta Miyoshi of host Illinois and beat him 7-6(3), 6-2. He is on to the round of 16 and will face No. 2 seed Ondrej Styler of Michigan.

Doubles action got underway on Friday. JJ Tracy and Andrew Lutschaunig teamed up this week and won a pair of matches on the opening day. They opened with a battled against Brogan Pierce and Ferdinand Schlueter of Western Michigan, eventually beating the Bronco duo 8-7, winning 7-2 in the tiebreaker. In the round of 16, Tracy and Lutschaunig had an easier time defeating Illinois’ tandem of Nic Meister and Tyler Bowers 8-3. They are off to the quarterfinals on Saturday evening.
In singles action, Reece Yacubov dropped his round of 16 match to Miroslav Cvjetan of Illinois-Chicago 6-4, 6-2.

The ITA Midwest Regional Championship got underway on Thursday at the Atkins Tennis Center in Champaign, Ill. The only Buckeye in action was Reece Yakubov and he won his first singles match by a convincing 6-0, 6-2 score over Alan Matyjias of Cleveland State.
