COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Hunter Armstrong and Charlie Clark have both been selected to the 2022 FINA World Championships short course team, announced by USA Swimming on Wednesday.
Armstrong will swim the 50 back, 100 back and 100 free and Clark will compete in the 800 and 1500 free.
The Buckeye duo were named to the U.S. National Team in September; it is the second time on the national team for both athletes.
In order to qualify for the U.S National Team, athletes must have one of the sixth-fastest times in each individual Olympic event, from the combined results of all USA Swimming or FINA sanctioned competitions.
Armstrong earned a spot on the team after swimming a time of 48.25 in the 100 free at the Phillips 66 National Championships and a time of 51.98 in the 100 back at the FINA World Championships. Armstrong’s 100 back time was the second-fastest of the six qualifying swimmers and was his personal-best time.
Clark qualified for the team with a time of 7:50.07 in the 800 free and 14:51.78 in the 1500 free at the Phillips 66 National Championships. Both of Clark’s times were second-best out of the six qualifying swimmers in his events.
The 2022 FINA World Championships (25m) will be held Dec. 13-18 at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre in Melbourne, Australia.
