COLUMBUS, Ohio?– Week in and week out, Buckeye student-athletes raise the standard of excellence set at Ohio State, whether that be in competition, in the classroom or in the community. ‘Buckeye Spotlight’ recognizes student-athletes who had noteworthy accomplishments both in contests and beyond the box score.
Throughout the 50th anniversary of Title IX, Ohio State Athletics continues to highlight and celebrate exceptional female student-athletes and women’s teams throughout history. To learn more about these stories, visit OhioStateBuckeyes.com.

Here are this week’s ‘Buckeye Spotlight’ student-athletes:
Katelyn Abeln | Pistol | Sr. | Douglasville, Ga.
- Abeln helped the defending national champion pistol team get off to a winning start for the 2022-23 season.
- Abeln was second overall with an aggregate score of 1686 last weekend against Army, helping the Buckeyes win all three events and defeat the Black Knights, 6727-6450.
- Abeln finished second in the air pistol, sport pistol and standard pistol.
- After the competition, Abeln and teammate Abbie Leverett, along with assistant coach Andrew Lutz, got on a plane and headed to Cairo, Egypt. There, Abeln and Leverett will compete at the ISSF World Championship, which is slated to take place Oct. 12-25.

Alexander Bernard | Men’s Tennis | Fr. | Bonita Springs, Fla.
- Bernard had a great first tournament as a Buckeye in his collegiate debut.
- He won three matches to qualify for the main draw at the ITA All-American Championship and then advanced to the round of 16 with a pair of wins over ranked opponents.
- Bernard went 5-1 on the week and has a total of four ranked wins.
Another win for Alexander Bernard, taking down No. 34 Axel Nefve 6-4, 2-6, 6-4. On to the Round of 16 on Friday.

Irina Cantos Siemers | Women’s Tennis | Sr. | Brussels, Belgium
- The Buckeye was selected by the officials and coaches as the recipient of the Sportsmanship Award at the ITA All-American Championships last week in Cary, N.C.
- On the court, Cantos Siemers and her doubles partner Sydni Ratliff reached the doubles consolation final, posting three wins in a row after dropping their opening match in the 32-team doubles draw.
- In singles, Cantos Siemers, the nation’s 10th-ranked player, won in the first round of the singles draw before falling in the second round.

Xavier Green | Men’s Soccer | Sr. | Kapiti Coast, New Zealand
- Green scored the game-opening goal versus Northern Kentucky and assisted on the game-winning score.
- He posted his third goal and third assist of the season in the 3-2 win over the Norse, appearing in his 70th career game.
- Green leads Ohio State with nine points and 24 shots this season and is tied for the team lead in goals with three.

Stephen Halliday | Men’s Hockey | Fr. | Glenwood, Md.
- The freshman led the Buckeyes with three assists and four points in their sweep of Wisconsin to open Big Ten play and stay undefeated on the year.
- Friday, he scored his first collegiate goal in the third period en route to a 3-1 Ohio State win.
- Saturday, Halliday had three assists as the Buckeyes rallied from a 3-0 second-period deficit. He assisted on Ohio State’s first goal of the game in the second period and then on the game-tying and game-winning goals in the third period.
- He was named Big Ten Second Star of the Week for his efforts, his first Big Ten weekly honor.

Marvin Harrison Jr. | Football | So. | Philadelphia, Pa.
- It’s rare to do something for the first time at a place like Ohio State, but Marvin Harrison Jr. is proving to be a rare kind of talent.
- Harrison Jr. caught seven passes for 131 yards and three touchdowns in last Saturday’s 49-20 win at Michigan State.
- It was the third time in the last seven games that Harrison Jr. has made three TD grabs in a game, and he became the first Buckeye wide receiver with three three-TD games in his career.
- Only one other wide receiver, Joey Galloway, has multiple three-touchdown games. He did it twice; once in 1993, and then again in 1994.
- Harrison Jr. currently leads the nation with nine touchdown receptions and his 536 receiving yards ranks 18th.

Kylie Murr | Women’s Volleyball | Sr. | Yorktown, Ind.
- Senior libero Kylie Murr led a stellar Buckeye defense to wins against No. 13 Penn State and RV Northwestern by averaging 4.22 digs per set. She also averaged 1.22 assists per set, the most by any non-setter.
- Murr moved up to second on the program’s all-time career digs list, passing the legendary Stacey Gordon, as Murr now has 1,607 career digs in the Scarlet & Gray.
- Against the Nittany Lions, Murr recorded 20 digs for the second-straight match, also adding four assists and a season-high two service aces. She followed up with 18 digs and a season-high seven assists against Northwestern.
- This season, Murr is eighth in the conference in digs, averaging 3.88 per set (202 total), and has increased her production to 4.28 per set in Big Ten play.
- Ohio State is tied for second in the Big Ten with a 5-1 conference record.

Emma Sears | Women’s Soccer | Sr. | Dublin, Ohio
- Sears had a goal and an assist in the Buckeyes’ 2-2 draw at Nebraska last Saturday.
- The goal was her team-leading sixth of the season and she now has a team-high 15 points.
- She has matched her goal total for last season and is one off her career-high.
- Sears has been the fastest and most dynamic player on the pitch in most of the games this season. She has typically been the focus of the opposition’s defense, which has freed up other players on the attack.

Makenna Webster | Field Hockey & Ice Hockey | Jr. | St. Louis, Mo.
- Makenna Webster played in a combined three games for two Ohio State programs last weekend.
- She made her Buckeye debut for the women’s ice hockey team in the Buckeyes’ 6-2 win over St. Cloud State on Saturday.
- Webster tallied the first point of her Ohio State ice hockey career with an assist in the game.
- She started and ended the weekend competing with the field hockey team, helping the program to a 7-1 win over Central Michigan Friday and a 7-1 victory over Ohio Sunday.
- She recorded her first multi-goal game of her collegiate field hockey career with two goals in the Buckeyes’ Friday contest.
