
Dobeš Tabbed B1G First Star of the Week

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Jakub Dobeš, a freshman goaltender on the No. 12/11 Ohio State men’s hockey team, has been named Big Ten First Star of the Week, the Big Ten Conference announced Wednesday. This is the third conference weekly honor for Dobeš, a native of Ostrava, Czech Republic.
In the Buckeyes’ road sweep of Michigan State last weekend, Dobeš stopped 71-of-74 shots for a 1.50 goals-against average and .959 save percentage while playing all 120 minutes. He also had an assist in Friday’s victory.
Friday, Dobeš had 32 saves in a 4-1 win, stopping the final 29 shots he faced, including five on a major power play, and recorded an assist. Saturday, he had 40 saves in a 3-2 victory, the second-highest total in his career. Sixteen of his saves came in the third period as the Buckeyes closed out a 3-2 win.
He has 30+ saves in each of his last six games and has a 2.07 goals-against average and .932 save percentage on the year, ranking 14th and fifth in the NCAA, respectively. Dobeš, who is on the Mike Richter Award watch list, is 17-6-1 this season, ranking third nationally in wins and 10th in winning percentage. He leads true freshmen goalies in the nation in all four categories.
This is the sixth conference weekly honor for a Buckeye this season, Dobeš leads the squad with three, while Mason Lohrei, Georgii Merkulov and Quinn Preston have also been recognized.

This week, Ohio State plays at Penn State. The teams will meet at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday in State College, Pa., with both games streamed through B1G Plus and on Ohio State Radio. Gameday links
The Buckeyes are 18-7-1 overall this year, with a 10-5-1-0-1-1 record in Big Ten play, tied for first with Michigan. The Nittany Lions are 14-12-0 and 5-11-0-1-1-0 in B1G contests. The Buckeyes swept the series in Columbus between the teams in early November.
