
Four Buckeyes are Multiple Winners at Tim Welsh Classic

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 14 Ohio State men's swimming and diving team defeated Notre Dame, 1,445.5-1,255.5 to win the two-day Tim Welsh Classic in South Bend, Ind. The women's team, ranked ninth nationally, was third behind Notre Dame and Akron. The women totaled 797.5 points while Notre Dame had 1,264.5 and Akron 933.
After a 10-win day for Ohio State on Friday, the Buckeyes raced and dove to eight more wins on Saturday. Hunter Armstrong led the way with a four-victory weekend, including a win in the 100 freestyle on Saturday. Freshman Alex Quach swept the butterfly events while on the women's side Josie Panitz swept the breaststroke events.
Jacob Fielding's win on 3-meter Saturday gave him a sweep on the springboard events. Mackenzie Crawford captured the 1-meter crown Saturday with 284.05 points.
Saturday race winners for Ohio State included Charlie Clark in the 1,650 freestyle, Thomas Watkins in the 200 backstroke and Amy Fulmer in the 100 freestyle.

Day 2 Session Notes
- The 1,650 freestyle was the first event of the day. Claire Pophal was the top Ohio State finisher in ninth place with a time of 17:34.63.
- Charlie Clark picked up a win in the 1,650 freestyle in a B standard time of 15:02.65 with North Hansen fourth in 15:37.96.
- A competitive 200 backstroke say Paige Hall place fifth in 1:59.59, Kristen Romano place sixth (2:00.22) and Morgan Kraus place eighth (2:00.93).
- Buckeyes secured four of the top six places in the men's 200 backstroke with Thomas Watkins swimming to the win in a season's best time of 1:45.32. R.J. Kondalski and Brandon Day were fourth and fifth, respectively, while Fabio Dalu had a season's best time of 1:50.51 to finish sixth.
- Amy Fulmer won the 100 freestyle in a time of 49.57 with Katherine Zenick (49.81) and Teresa Ivan (50.18) third and fifth, respectively.
- Hunter Armstrong gave Ohio State a sweep in the 100 free, winning in 43.12 with Ruslan Gaziev (43.79), Sem Andreis (43.82) and James Ward (44.57) finishing in fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively. Josh Bogniard had a season's best time for him in 46.36.
- A third consecutive race win followed Armstrong's win, as Josie Panitz won her second race of the weekend by taking first in the 200 breaststroke in 2:13.43 with Janessa Mathews eighth in 2:17.07.
- Ohio State had four top eight swims in the men's 200 breaststroke with Billy Regan leading the way with a fifth-place finish in 2:01.46.
- Katie Trace was the top Buckeye in the 200 butterfly, taking eighth in 2:02.72.
- Freshman Alex Quach doubled up wins in the butterfly, adding a victory in the 200 fly Saturday in 1:44.61 to his 100 fly win on Friday. Jean-Pierre Khouzam was third in 1:49.05, Chachi Gustafson was fifth in 1:49.73 and Lain Weaver was seventh in 1:52.09. Fabio Dalu swam a season's best time of 1:53.75 to take eighth.
- The 400 freestyle relay A team of Katherine Zenick, Amy Fulmer, Kristen Romano and Teresa Ivan took second in 3:17.67.
- Mackenzie Crawford placed first on the 1-meter springboard with 336.80 points. Amand Ling (284.05) and Ciara McGing (263.15) were sixth and seventh, respectively.
- Jacob Fielding finished off a sweep of the men's springboards, winning the 3-meter on Saturday with a season's high score of 426.35 points. Clayton Chaplin's 412.40 points was the second-best score of the year for the Buckeyes.
