Returning 10 of 11 starters and your top four goal scorers will have any team optimistic about its chances of having a successful season. That is the situation in front of Ohio State head coach Lori Walker-Hock and the Buckeyes this fall.
Coming off a condensed season that was played in the spring and ended in May, the Buckeyes are eager to get back out on the pitch this fall and return to some sort of normalcy. Walker-Hock said the team was disappointed with how last season ended, a 4-1 loss to Santa Clara in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. With the majority of the starting unit returning, expectations are high heading into this fall.
The Buckeyes opened training on an ideal Tuesday morning on campus. The team will train through the weekend and then head to South Bend, Ind., on Tuesday for the first of two preseason scrimmages. OSU will play at Notre Dame on Tuesday and then will host Pitt on Friday, April 13 at the Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
The season opener is set for Thursday, Aug. 19 at BYU. First touch will be at 9 p.m. ET. The Cougars also made the NCAA Tournament last season, falling in the opening round to Virginia.
Lori Walker-Hock is beginning her 25th season at the helm of the Buckeye program. She has a career record of 262-179-52 and is a three-time Big Ten Coach of the Year. She has led the Buckeyes to the NCAA Tournament 14 times including an appearance in the 2010 College Cup.
