COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State men’s basketball players E.J. Liddell and Duane Washington Jr. are two of 40 players headed to Chicago this weekend for the NBA G League Elite Camp.
The camp, which will take place June 19-21 at Wintrust Arena, gives players an opportunity to showcase their skills in front of NBA and NBA G League scouts, coaches and front-office executives by playing in five-on-five games and participating in strength and agility drills throughout the three-day event.
A select number of players from the NBA G League Elite Camp will be invited to participate in the 2021 NBA Draft Combine based on their performance. The NBA Draft Combine will be held June 21-27 at Wintrust Arena and the Marriott Marquis in Chicago.
Both Liddell and Washington Jr., are part of nearly 300 collegiate players who have declared early entry for this year’s NBA Draft. This weekend, along with the potential of the NBA Draft Combine next week, will go a long way in helping those players to decide whether to stay in the draft or return to school. The deadline to withdraw from the draft and retain NCAA eligibility is July 7.
Liddell is coming off a first team All-Big Ten season in which he averaged 16.2 points and 6.7 rebounds while shooting 47 percent from the floor. He was one of 15 players on the Wooden Award ballot and also earned All-Big Ten Tournament team honors after averaging 15.3 points and 5.5 rebounds in the Buckeyes’ four-game run.
Washington Jr, who just finished his junior season, enjoyed his best year as a Buckeye in 2020-21. He led the team in scoring at 16.4 ppg and was named a third team All-Big Ten honoree. He hit the 1,000-point mark in March of this past year and is currently in the top 50 in scoring in school history. The Grand Rapids, Mich., native has made 185 career three-pointers which is fourth-most for any Buckeye in program history. He capped the season by setting a Big Ten Tournament record with 92 points over the four games, including a career high 32 points in title game vs. Illinois.
