No. 15 Seed Ohio State to Host NCAA Tournament Matches

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The 2021 Big Ten regular season co-champion and Big Ten Tournament champion Ohio State women’s tennis team is the No. 15 seed in the 2021 NCAA Championship and will host first and second round matches this weekend at the Auer Tennis Complex.
The Buckeyes are 21-3 overall and enter the NCAA Tournament on a 12-match winning streak.
Ohio State will face UIC, the Horizon League champion, with the other first round matchup Ball State, the MAC champion, taking on Vanderbilt, an at-large selection out of the SEC. The winner of the Columbus site will advance to the championship site, with the final rounds at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla.
The first round matches will be Friday, with the Cardinals and Commodores meeting at 11 a.m., followed by the Buckeyes and Flames at 2 p.m. The first round winners will meet at noon Saturday for a spot in the Round of 16. Attendance will be limited to pass lists for each participating team.
Live scoring and video will be available for all matches.
The Buckeyes will be making the seventh consecutive and 17th overall NCAA Tournament appearance in program history. The team also hosted in 2016 and ’17 and is 4-0 at home in NCAA action. The team’s first NCAA appearance was in 1996. The squad qualified six years in a row from 1999-04, had a three-year stretch from 2008-10 and began the most recent streak in 2014, with no tournament held in 2020.
The Buckeyes have never played UIC and are 10-0 vs. Ball State all-time. Ohio State is 4-1 all-time against the Commodores. Ohio State played on Vanderbilt’s home courts in three NCAA tournaments (2015, 2018, 2019), but has not faced the Commodores in NCAA play.
Ohio State is one of three Big Ten teams in the NCAA field, with Michigan and Northwestern both at-large selections.
