Ohio State on to B1G Tournament Semifinals with Win over Spartans

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women's tennis team posted a fourth straight shutout and 11th win in a row, as it defeated Michigan State, 4-0, in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten Tournament in Madison, Wis., Friday. The Buckeyes, the tournament's No. 1 seed, will face No. 4 Iowa or No. 13 Maryland at 3 p.m. Saturday in the semifinals.
Ohio State, now 19-3 on the year, won the doubles point and three singles matches in straight sets vs. the No. 9 seed Spartans (7-12). Lucia Marzal posted singles and doubles wins for Ohio State, while Madeline Atway and Luna Dormet won in singles and Kolie Allen, Isabelle Boulais and Lisa Hofbauer all were doubles winners.
In Doubles
- The Buckeyes continued their winning ways in doubles, taking a 1-0 lead for the 17th match in a row with the doubles point.
- The duo of Lucia Marzal and Lisa Hofbauer won the final three games to defeat Nicole Stephens and Samantha Memije, 6-2, on court two. The Ohio State tandem is 10-2 this year, all in dual play.
- In a matchup of ranked teams on court one, No. 50 Isabelle Boulais and Kolie Allen prevailed over No. 83 Mary Lewis and Maja Pietrowicz, 6-3. The Buckeyes broke for a 5-3 lead and held for the win. Boulais and Allen are 14-2 this season and in dual matches.
- The court three match was suspended with Ohio State's Dormet and Cantos Siemers leading Ayshe Can and Lauren Lemonds, 5-4.
In Singles
- Three Buckeyes were within a game of clinching at nearly the same time, sealing the team victory in a short span. All three served it out.
- Freshman Madeline Atway put the Buckeyes up 2-0, as she posted a 6-1, 6-3 win over Tia Makherjee on court six. Atway is 2-1 in dual matches and 4-2 overall as a rookie this year.
- On court four, Marzal was a 6-3, 6-3 victor over Pietrowicz for a 3-0 Ohio State advantage. Marzal leads the Buckeyes with an 18-2 dual match record and 20-3 overall ledger.
- Dormet sealed the team win, as she downed Stephens, 6-3, 6-2, on court five. Dormet is on a nine-match winning streak and 16-1 in dual matches, with an 18-1 overall mark.
- Cantos Siemers on court one and Boulais on court two both were up a set when play was suspended, with Hofbauer about to start her second set on court three after dropping the first in a tiebreaker.
