Buckeyes Blow Past MSU Again, Advance to B1G Semis

LINCOLN, Neb. – For the fifth time this season, Ohio State swept Michigan State and has advanced to the semifinals of the Big Ten Tournament in Lincoln, Neb.
Remarkably, this was the fifth meeting of the year between the two teams as they met twice in non-conference matches in Columbus on Feb. 13. Those were followed by two regular season meetings and then Friday morning’s match. In all five matches, the Buckeyes swept their way to victory, this one in a 4-0 manner.
Ohio State (19-2) wasted little time with the doubles point as the Buckeyes opened all three matches with 3-0 leads. James Trotter and Justin Boulais were the first done on court one, winning 6-1. John McNally and Robert Cash were right behind them with a 6-1 win of their own on court two and the Buckeyes were on their way.
In singles, Trotter was first done again with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Josh Mukherjee on court three. Cannon Kingsley improved to 26-0 with a similar 6-1, 6-3 victory on court two and JJ Tracy provided the clinching point on court six with his 6-0, 6-4 win.
The Buckeyes won all six first sets and were leading in the other three matches when the team match was clinched.
The win moves Ohio State into Saturday’s semifinal match where it will face Northwestern. The Wildcats beat host Nebraska 4-2 on Friday. Ohio State beat Northwestern in Evanston back on Feb. 19 in the Big Ten opener.
