Rodriquez, Birzon Named 2021 Captains

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Izzy Rodriquez and Marissa Birzon have been named captains of the 2021 Ohio State Women’s Soccer team, Lori Walker-Hock, head coach of the Buckeyes, announced Tuesday.
“I am proud to announce Izzy and Marissa as our team captains,” Walker-Hock said. “Their collective influence over our team in the last year through the many distractions has demonstrated their resolve and focus on a chosen path toward distinction.
“I am proud of the leadership voice they have found during this tough year,” she said. “High achievement grounded in gratitude and humility has been their daily choice. Their pure joy toward training, their passion for excellence and their love of their teammates has kept us moving forward as one.”
Rodriquez, a senior defender from Canton, Michigan, has played in 59 games for the Buckeyes. She has four goals and nine assists and has taken 43 shots during her career.
Birzon, a senior forward from East Amherst, New York, has appeared in 58 games with eight goals, on 43 shots, and two assists.
The Buckeyes, 2-1-1 on the season, face Penn State at 3 p.m. Saturday at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium in Columbus.
