Buckeyes Finish the Season with 71-63 Setback at Rutgers

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Rutgers used a big first quarter run to build a lead and Ohio State was never able to fully climb out of the hole, falling 71-63 Friday night inside the Rutgers Athletic Center.
This was the final game of an interesting season for the Buckeyes, who finish the year at 13-7 overall and 9-7 in the Big Ten.
Braxtin Miller, one of the team’s two seniors, played hard Friday night, finishing with 19 points, eight rebounds and four assists. Miller has announced that she is going to return next season, utilizing the NCAA’s waiver allowing for another year of eligibility.
Jacy Sheldon played all 40 minutes on Friday, scoring 15 points to go along with three assists and three steals. She finished the year as the team’s leading scorer and was the only player to play and start all 20 games.
Rutgers closed the first quarter on a 13-2 run and led 21-9 after the first 10 minutes. Despite shooting just 31 percent for the game, the Buckeyes hung around. They outscored Rutgers in the second quarter and the third quarter was played even at 16 points apiece.
In the fourth, the Buckeyes cut the lead down to as little as six points in the final minute but wasn’t ever able to get over the hump.
