Dakota Joshua, a standout for the Ohio State men’s hockey team from 2016-19, skated in his first NHL game Monday for the St. Louis Blues. Joshua, from Dearborn, Michigan, wasted no time getting on the score sheet, as the forward notched his first career goal in the second period. The Blues downed the Ducks, 5-4, in the game in Anaheim.
“Obviously I was nervous heading heading into the first shift but once I got that out of the way I started to feel a lot better and settle into the game,” Joshua told the media postgame.
A Toronto draft pick, Joshua’s rights were traded to St. Louis in Summer 2019. In his first pro season in 2019-20, he played 30 games with the AHL San Antonio Rampage (3g, 4a, 7) and 20 with the ECHL Tulsa Oilers (3g, 8a, 11p). This season, he skated in four games with AHL Utica, with a goal and an assist, before he was called up first to the Blues’ taxi squad and then to the Blues roster.

Joshua was a part of three NCAA Tournament teams at Ohio State, including a 2018 Frozen Four trip, and a member of the 2019 Big Ten regular season championship squad. He skated in 128 games as a Buckeye and had 100 points on 41 goals and 59 assists, earning Honorable Mention All-Big Ten honors in 2017 and 2018 NCAA Regional All-Tournament Team accolades. He earned his Ohio State degree in Summer 2019. He was a two-time Ohio State Scholar-Athlete and Academic All-Big Ten selection.
