COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men's hockey team ended its season with a 4-0 loss to No. 6/7 ranked Michigan in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten Tournament Sunday night in Compton Family Ice Arena in Notre Dame, Ind. The Wolverines, the tournament's No. 3 seed, advance to take on No. 2 Minnesota Monday.
Against the No. 6 seed Buckeyes (7-19-1), the Wolverines (15-9-1) scored once in both the first (on the power play) and second periods and added a goal early in the third. The Buckeyes had a five minute major power play in the final 10 minutes of regulation but were unable to convert and Michigan scored into an empty net just after the power play expired to extend the lead to four. The Buckeyes put 26 shots on net in the game, with the Wolverines posting 39 shots on goal.
Quoting head coach Steve Rohlik
"I was really proud of these guys. No one knows what this group has gone through. To be here and have the opportunity to play in this tournament; again, I'm just proud of the group and proud of these six seniors. They don't get enough credit for the footprint they are leaving at Ohio State. They are as important of a class as we've had. They were going for four tournaments in a row and we just couldn't get the job done."
