
Buckeyes Get Past Illini in Four

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Ohio State women’s volleyball team went on the road and got the job done with 3-1 triumph (25-17, 24-26, 25-17, 25-22) at Illinois on Friday inside Huff Hall. The Buckeyes extended their unblemished record to 8-0 while the Fighting Illini fell to 2-5.
Tonight marked the first time Ohio State has beaten Illinois since Nov. 11, 2015 and the first win in Champaign since Oct. 10, 2015.
It was a complete team effort as Gabby Gonzales, Vanja Bukilic, Rylee Rader and Emily Londot all finished with 12 kills apiece. Rader set a new career high in kills and matched her career mark in blocks with five.
Mac Podraza earned 42 assists, six digs and three kills. Lauren Witte added five kills and seven digs while Kylie Murr had 16 digs. Gonzales, Londot, Witte and Podraza each had three rejections.
SET 1: The teams were evenly matched until Ohio State took a 15-11 lead. The Illini needed a timeout after kills by Bukilic and Gonzales pushed the advantage to 20-15. Podraza and Rader met at the net for the set-sealing block, 25-17.
SET 2: The Buckeyes scored six unanswered points to start the frame but the Illini made up the difference to tie the score at 8-8. Although Ohio State got back in front, Illinois chipped away at the deficit and closed the set on a 5-0 run for a 26-24 winner.
SET 3: Ohio State found its grove as it hit .467 (15-1-30) for the set. After locking things at 10-all, the Illini called for time as the Buckeyes went on a 9-2 run. Ohio State notched four of the last six points to claim a 25-17 tally.
SET 4: Illinois was down 18-13 following five straight Ohio State points. A trio of Buckeye miscues brought the Illini within two, 23-21, but a serving error sealed the victory for Ohio State, 25-22.
