
No. 8 Buckeyes Head East for Matches at Maryland and Rutgers

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 8-ranked Ohio State women’s tennis team hits the road for two Big Ten matches this weekend. The Buckeyes (5-2, 2-0 B1G) will face Maryland (0-2, 0-2 B1G) at 10 a.m. Friday in the Junior Tennis Champions Center in College Park, Md. Sunday, Ohio State will play at Rutgers (0-2, 0-2 B1G) at noon in the East Brunswick Racquet Club in East Brunswick, N.J. Live scoring and video will be available for both matches.

Buckeye This and That
- Ohio State is 5-2 on the year and opened Big Ten play with wins over Purdue (6-1) and Indiana (7-0) last weekend.
- In the two matches last weekend, Lucia Marzal and Lisa Hofbauer each posted 2-0 records in both singles and doubles for the Buckeyes. Kolie Allen, Luna Dormet and Irina Cantos Siemers were all 2-0 in singles and Isabelle Boulais was 2-0 in doubles.
- The Buckeyes moved to No. 8 in the ITA Tennis rankings this week (from No. 10). The squad started the year at No. 13.
- Against Purdue last Friday, freshman Madeline Atway paired with Isabelle Boulais for a doubles win, marking Atway’s first collegiate doubles dual match victory. Her classmate, Tanisha Kashyap, posted a victory in singles against the Boilermakers for her first collegiate singles dual match win.
- The Buckeyes have won the doubles point in four of seven matches this season, including in both matches last weekend. In doubles, the squad is 5-1 on court one and 5-2 on court three this season, with a 2-5 mark on court two.
- Irina Cantos Siemers leads the team with eight overall wins (8-1), while Lucia Marzal (7-2) is second with seven victories and Luna Dormet (6-0) and Lisa Hofbauer (6-4) each have six overall wins. In dual play, Cantos Siemers and Marzal are 5-1, Hofbauer is 5-2 and Dormet is 4-0 to lead the way.
- In dual matches, the doubles tandem of Kolie Allen and Isabelle Boulais is a team-best 4-1. Boulais (5-1) and Marzal (5-2) lead the team with five dual match doubles victories each.
- Ohio State is 4-0 this year at home in the new Ty Tucker Tennis Center. The matches this weekend are the team’s first true road matches after three neutral site contests at the ITA Indoor Championships in Stillwater, Okla.

Ohio State vs Maryland
- Ohio State is 7-1 all-time against Maryland.
- The teams have not met since a 7-0 Buckeye win April 1, 2017 in Columbus. The last matchup at Maryland was April 3, 2016, with Ohio State winning 6-0.
- The Terrapins started dual match play last weekend with losses on the road to Michigan State (4-3) and Michigan (5-2).
- Maryland was 8-5 in 2020 and 1-0 in Big Ten play before the remainder of the season was canceled.
Buckeyes vs. Rutgers
- The Buckeyes have posted a 4-2 record against the Scarlet Knights all-time.
- The squads last met March 31, 2017, with Ohio State winning 6-1 at home. The last match between the teams in New Jersey was a 7-0 Buckeye victory April 2, 2016.
- Rutgers is 0-2 this season, with losses to Michigan (7-0) and Michigan State (6-1) on the road last weekend. The team will host Penn State Friday before the match with the Buckeyes Sunday.
- The Scarlet Knights were 8-4 in 2020 (0-3 B1G) before the season was ended.
