
Buglioni, Brengman Earn Monthly WCHA Awards

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The freshmen duo of Jenna Buglioni and Riley Brengman were honored on Monday with monthly awards from the WCHA. Buglioni is the conference’s Rookie of the Month while Brengman was named the Defenseman of the Month.
In helping the Buckeyes win seven of 10 games during the month of January, Buglioni and Brengman combined for eight goals, 11 assists and 19 points. Buglioni led the team in goals scored (six) and was tied for the team lead with 10 points. Brengman had a team-high seven assists and also finished the month with a +/- of +10, which was the best on the team.
A Port Moody, British Columbia native, Buglioni started the month of January with six points (3G, 3A) in a pair of wins over Bemidji State Jan. 1-2. She added two goals and an assist in a weekend sweep of Minnesota State Jan. 22-23 and also scored once last weekend vs. No. 2 Minnesota. For the season, Buglioni leads the team with seven goals and is one of three players on the squad with 11 points. She is seventh nationally in points per game among freshmen (0.79).
Brengman scored at least one point in seven of Ohio State’s 10 games during the month of January and had nine total points (2G, 7A). She finished the month with assists in four consecutive contests, including two in both games of the series against Minnesota State. Brengman was also a two-time WCHA weekly award winner, taking home Rookie of the Week honors on Jan. 5 before winning the Defensemen of the Week award on Jan. 26.
Ohio State, ranked No. 4 nationally, is off this week before it returns to action Feb. 12-13 with a series at No. 2 Minnesota. The Buckeyes and Gophers split a series last weekend in Columbus, with Ohio State picking up a 3-1 win on Saturday.
