Bryson Shaw
Assessing the team:
“It’s a bright future for all of us in the secondary and a lot of young guys out there. As a team, as a group, as a defense, every snap that’s gone by, we’ve gotten better. I just feel like we’re growing together. We come together as a brotherhood and trust in each other, trust in ourselves, and trust in the coaches. It’s all starting to come together.”
On Maryland:
“Oh yeah–big Maryland fan growing up, but more so Maryland basketball fan but you know. I’m not a fan of them anymore. It’s time to go against them.”
Jack Sawyer
On how the season is progressing:
“Our confidence is rising by the practice, I think we’re all taking steps. Even today, I think today was one of our better practices we’ve had all season.”
On team chemistry:
“What I like about this class is that we’re all grinders. We all like to be in the Woody. We all like to workout and practice football. We’re all really focused on football too, so its good to be around a group of guys like that.”
JT Tuimoloau
On what he’s working on personally:
“I have a lot (personal goals) coming in, but I think for me it’s being the best version of myself, always compete, put your head down stay humble, and stay close to God.”
Clearing up “J.T.”
“I’m gonna clear this up for my Ma, JT are my initials. Jaylen is my real name. That’s where JT comes, from there is no extra T (JTT). JT is just my first and last name, my initials.”
On bonding with others:
“That’s my older brother (Tyler Friday), that’s my dude. He’s helped me a lot. When I first came here I wasn’t very talkative, I was very quiet. He was one of many dudes that kept talking to me. They lifted me up and I appreciate him. That’s my dawg.”
Thayer Munford
On his mindset:
“When I was injured before, during camp, I didn’t always have a great attitude or a great mindset. I always felt like the world was ending, my career was over. But really it’s just a short time frame, you move on it, recover, and have a great mindset. I had little doubts, but at the same time I’m one of the leaders on the team, and I can’t have people on the team see me down, when I’m actually going to be ok. People see me being down, everyone is going to be down. Me and Zach Harrison always have the energy, always try to bring people along, and CJ Stroud, and Chris Olave, we just try to make sure people are alright.”
On CJ Stroud:
“He always wants to be the best. As far as being a freshman, he has been more mature than any other freshman I’ve seen. That’s my guy and he gets down on himself sometimes, but at the same time he knows he can’t be down.”
On the “next man up” mentality:
“It puts us at ease. For instance, if I go down, Matt’s right there to go in. If Paris goes down, Jackson will go in, and so on and so forth. Everybody is ready for that time. It might not be the line we are used to before in the first half, but also at the same time we have to just keep going.”
Jaxson Smith-Njibba
On staying focused:
“That’s always been what they’ve told me to push for just stay focused, stay calm, and things will unravel how they unravel. I have no control over that, and like I said when the ball’s in the air I just got to maximize every opportunity that I get, because it’s limited.”
On CJ Stroud:
“We know what he’s capable of, we know he’s gonna get out of it, and he’s going to do his thing at the end of the day. No matter how long it takes, we know he’s the guy, the man for the job. Our trust is in him, we don’t really listen to the outside noise.”
On his mentality on the field:
“Just trying to start fast, and make explosive plays. Simple plays and turn them into explosives. We got the personnel and guys to do that, so it works in my favor most of the time.”
Assessing the team:
“I was honestly telling Garrett the other day, I think this freshman class is really good. I think our freshman class has stepped up a little bit more, just because you know, we’ve got a lot of starting freshmen. So I got to hand it to them, it hurts to say. But I think we’ve got a really good class too, but they’ve showed up.”
Marcus Crowley
On team chemistry:
“Chemistry’s great. We’re all brothers. We all love each other. It’s like when you play your big brother in basketball, you still want to win. It’s that competitiveness, but we all love each other.”
On the “next man up” mentality:
“That’s part of what we call competitive excellence. When your number is called, you’re ready to make that play. I feel like everybody’s confidence right now is through the roof. Everyone in the room is ready when their number is called.”
On his personal mentality:
“That was the toughest thing I ever struggled with, the mental aspect of being hurt, and returning to play. Mentally it’s the hardest thing. But I kind of, through the whole process, learned how to control and regulate my emotions. So it’s like when I’m down, I know how to tell myself how to feel a certain way. I regulate my emotions to get through the pain. I sat down and talked to, her name is Candace. She helped me tremendously, in a way that I had never felt. It’s been something that I’ve had to deal with my whole life. You know I’m not from the best area. I’m from Jacksonville Florida. The hardest part is when football isn’t going my way, because as a student athlete my life is devoted to football. Everything I do revolves around football. So when that’s not going well for me, it’s hard. Not just for me, but for everyone. It’s kind of like you’re down in the slumps, and you just have to find something that can change your mindset and positivity.”
Sevyn Banks
On studying film:
“We (Kamyrn Babb) talk all the time, he sees what I see. Everybody don’t study the same, we study two different ways. Me and Kam aren’t the same person, but any type of knowledge we can give out to each other, we do it. We as one when were out there.”
On building confidence week to week:
“We still got some games to play. You haven’t seen the best yet. We can be very confident and not worry about things, because if somebody’s tired, they can hop in for a play, and get the job done.”
Assessing Maryland:
“They’re a good team (Maryland). We’re just going to step up to the plate, and do our thing, and do our job, and we’ll be good. We’ll be alright.”
