COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State has played well as of late and will look to keep the good play rolling right into the Big Ten Tournament as they open play at No. 2 seed Purdue this Sunday. The Buckeyes, the No. 7 seed, have not lost since falling 1-0 in overtime to Purdue in the teams’ regular season meeting.
First touch is set for 3 p.m. and the match will be televised on BTN.
- The Buckeyes earned seven points over the final three matches of the season, matching their total from the first seven, and earned the No. 7 seed.
- The regular season match with Purdue was a good one. Both teams battled for a scoreless 90 minutes. The Buckeyes dominated the second half and held a 21-8 edge in shots after regulation. But just 34 seconds into overtime, Purdue flipped the script and scored off a corner kick to take the match 1-0.
- The Buckeyes lead the all-time series with Purdue 14-12-3 and the regular season meeting this year was the first win for Purdue in the series in the last six meetings.
- Ohio State has an all-time record of 13-13-5 in the Big Ten Tournament with three titles coming in 2002, 2004 and 2012.
- Ohio State and Purdue have met six times previously in the Big Ten Tournament. The Boilermakers hold a 3-2-1 edge in those meetings with the most recent coming in 2008. The only Big Ten Tournament meeting in West Lafayette came in 2001 and the Buckeyes won that match 2-1 in overtime.
- Needing a win last Sunday to secure a spot in the tournament, the Buckeyes got a goal from senior captain Kayla Fischer in the 55th minute and then freshman Sydney Jones notched the first goal of her career on a PK in the 71st minute to help the Buckeyes to a 2-1 victory.
- Freshman forward Kailyn Dudukovich assisted on Fischer’s goal vs. Northwestern and has now produced points in six of the last 10 matches.
- Dudukovich is second on the team with 17 points and her team-leading seven goals are the most by a freshman in the Big Ten.
- Senior Kayla Fischer leads the team with 18 points on the season. She has six goals and a team-high tying six assists. She is third in the conference in shots per game and her 234 career shot attempts are sixth-most in program history.
- Fischer and Dudukovich were named third team All-Big Ten while Dudukovich and Jones earned All-Freshman Team honors
- Kine Flotre is tied with Fischer with six assists on the year. She has missed the last six matches with a foot injury.
- Captain Izzy Rodriguez was named to the MAC Hermann Award Watch list at the start of the season and was also named a finalist for the Senior CLASS Award. She has a pair of goals and an assist on the year.
