COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State will welcome another Top-10 opponent to Jesse Owens Memorial stadium on Sunday when it hosts No. 9 Rutgers. The Scarlet Knights were predicted to win the conference this season and so, they are leading the league at 3-0-0. The Buckeyes are close behind at 2-1-1. Last spring, Rutgers claimed a 1-0 win in Columbus during the Big Ten Regional Weekend. Sunday’s first touch is slated for Noon and the Big Ten Network will have the coverage.
Admission and parking are free for all women’s soccer home matches.
- This will be the sixth ranked opponent of the season for the Buckeyes who already own wins over No. 18 UCF and No. 12 Penn State.
- The Buckeyes have yet to beat Rutgers as the Scarlet Knights lead the all-time series 8-0-2. That includes a 6-0-2 mark since Rutgers joined the league in 2014.
- Ohio State knocked-off No. 12 Penn State 1-0 in State College last Sunday and the drew Indiana 1-1 on Thursday night at home in the Buckeyes’ first overtime game of the season. The Buckeyes come into Sunday’s game at 7-4-1 overall and 2-1-1 in the conference.
- Rutgers is coming off a 2-1 win at Minnesota on Thursday night and is 8-2-0 on the year and is atop the Big Ten table at 3-0-0. Frankie Tagliaferri leads the Rutgers attack with eight goals and five assists on the season.
- Ohio State’s win at Penn State was the Buckeyes’ first win in State College since 2008 and it was the first win over Penn State since 2017.
- Captain Izzy Rodriguez scored the lone goal vs. Penn State, placing a beautiful free kick in the upper 90. It was her second goal of the season off a set piece.
- Rodriguez was named to the MAC Hermann Award Watch list at the start of the season and was also named a candidate for the Senior CLASS Award.
- Senior Kayla Fischer leads the Buckeyes in points this season with 16 as she has a team-high tying five goals and six assists. She came in to the week fifth in the conference in total points and tied for the league lead with six assists.
- Kine Flotre is tied with Fischer with six assists on the year.
- Emma Sears is tied for the team lead with five goals. Three of those five goals have been game-winners which second-most in the conference.
- Freshman forward Kailyn Dudukovich scored twice vs. Minnesota last week and now is tied with Sears and Fischer for the team lead with five goals. She was the Big Ten Freshman of the Week for her efforts vs. Minnesota.
- Senior keeper Bailey Kolinski played her best match of the season vs. Indiana, making a pair of tremendous saves en route to a season 10 on the evening.
News and Nuggets
- Ohio State has won their first two Big Ten road matches this season and have not lost in their last five Big Ten road contests.
- The 1-0 win at Penn State on Sept. 26 was the first win in State College for the Buckeyes since 2008.
- The four goals scored against No. 18 UCF was the most against a ranked opponent since the Buckeyes beat No. 23 Indiana 6-0 on Nov. 1, 2009.
- Ohio State is 52nd in the latest RPI
- In goal, Bailey Kolinski has started the last 26 games. She has seven career shutouts, including a 1-0 shutout at No. 12 Penn State (9/26) this season.
- Izzy Rodriguez is the reigning Big Ten Defender of the Year and a third team United Soccer Coaches All-American. She is also on the MAC Hermann Award Watch List and a Senior CLASS Award candidate. Rodriguez has two goals this season off set pieces, scoring an Olympico vs. UCF (9/2) and scoring off a free kick in the 1-0 win at Penn State (9/26).
- Kayla Fischer leads the team with 16 points. She entered the week fifth in the conference in points per game and leads the conference along with Flotre with six assists.
- Fischer had 11 points in a four-match stretch from Aug. 29 – Sept. 5. That is the most points by a Buckeye in a four-match stretch since Tiffany Cameron notched 18 points in a four-match stretch in late October of 2012.
- Emma Sears has a team-high tying five goals on the year. Three of those goals have been game-winners which is second in the Big Ten.
- Midfielder Kine Flotre has been making things happen out of the midfield this season. She leads the team with six assists which is tied for the most in the Big Ten.
- Freshman Kailyn Dudukovich notched her first two-goal game vs. Minnesota and is now tied for the team-lead with five on the season. She was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week on Sept. 28 for her efforts vs. Minnesota.
- Junior Kitty Jones Black has four assists this season, the first four of her career. She notched a pair of helpers in the 4-2 win over No. 18 UCF.
- Midfielder Brittany Duncan scored her first collegiate goal late in the win over Dayton (Sept. 9)
- Graduate Emaly Vatne scored a goal against TCU, her first goal since her freshman year in 2018.
- Midfielder Christin Baumbick tallied her first collegiate goal at Maryland on Sept. 19.
