COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Big Ten Conference has announced the 2021 Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving schedules for the entire conference. Every team will compete three times during the regular season followed by the Big Ten Championships and then the NCAA Championships.
Ohio State’s lone home meeting this season will be a tri-meet on Jan. 15-16 with Penn State and Rutgers. The Buckeyes will travel to Indiana for a dual meet the following weekend (Jan. 22-23) and then finish the regular season at Michigan on the weekend of Feb. 5-6.
“We have been waiting for this day. It feels good to have a plan moving forward,” said Ohio State Director of Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving Bill Dorenkott. “Our team has done a remarkable job since way back in March of 2020 when things were initially shutdown. Our team and staff have a sincere sense of gratitude for Gene Smith and Ohio State Athletics’ willingness and ability to create an opportunity for us to train and compete.”
The Big Ten will announce plans for the men’s and women’s conference championship meets in the coming weeks. The NCAA has previously announced its plans to hold the women’s championship on March 17-20 and the men’s championship on March 24-27. Both events will be at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, N.C.
This Big Ten announced that all Olympic sport schedules this winter/spring will be conference-only schedules. The conference considered the ability of an institution to safely host competitions, proximity, travel costs and competitiveness when it put together the swimming and diving schedule. The conference head coaches are now determining procedural details for each meet.
“We realize that a lot can happen in the upcoming months, but we have hope for the future,” Dorenkott added. “The opportunity to race brings a sense of normalcy back to college athletics.”
