Jincy Dunne and Emma Maltais Selected First Team All-WCHA

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State women’s ice hockey junior forward, Emma Maltais (Burlington, Ontario) and redshirt senior defender, Jincy Dunne (O’Fallon, Mo.) have been selected First Team All-WCHA, conference officials announced Thursday. For the third-consecutive season, Maltais has been among the trio of first team forwards. She finished the regular season with 55 points on 18 goals and 37 assists in 34 games, setting a new single-season point record for Ohio State. Maltais also tallied 41 points (12g-29a) in WCHA play to finish second in league points and assists. Dunne, also a three-time First Team blueliner, finished third in regular-season defenseman scoring with 25 points on seven goals and 18 assists. She registered 19 of her points (6g-13a) in league play to finish second among WCHA blueliners.
Dunne started her career as a Third Team All-WCHA honoree while both Dunne and Maltais were named to the All-Rookie Team as freshman. This preseason, Maltais was named the Preseason WCHA Player of the Year while both Maltais and Dunne were voted Preseason All-WCHA. Throughout the season, Maltais has been a three-time WCHA Forward of the Week and a NCAA Second Star of the Week while Dunne has been a two-time Defenseman of the Week as well as a WCHA Defenseman of the Month. Of the five First Team members, Ohio State and Wisconsin take two spots while Minnesota Duluth and Minnesota each have a player represented.
Two more Buckeyes earned Third Team All-WCHA honors including sophomore defender Sophie Jaques (Toronto, Ont.) and sophomore goaltender Andrea Braendli (Zurich, Switzerland). Jaques was selected to the All-Rookie team last season while this is Braendli’s first All-WCHA honor. This season, Braendli has been a two-time WCHA Goaltender of the Week as well as the NCAA Second Star of the Week. She recorded the third-best save percentage in the league at .921 and started all 27 games in which she played for the Buckeyes while posting a 2.00 goals against average. Jaques has posted 22 points this season, the second highest defensive total on the team behind Dunne, while scoring a defense-high eight goals and dishing out 14 assists. Her 22 points in the regular season puts her fifth among league defenseman. She also recorded 115 shots on goal for the most of any WCHA blueliner.
Freshman defender Teghan Inglis (Okotoks, Alberta) earns her first WCHA honor as she joins five other players on the WCHA All-Rookie Team. Inglis started the year alongside Dunne on the blue line and has since posted 10 points from three goals and seven assists. She also blocked the most shots of any WCHA rookie at 38. Inglis joins the ranks of eight Buckeyes to be selected to the All-Rookie team.
In addition to the five Ohio State players selected to All-WCHA teams, 16 Buckeyes have been selected to the 2019-20 All-Academic Team. To qualify for the WCHA All-Academic Team, student-athletes must have completed one year of eligibility and must have a GPA of at least 3.0 for the previous two semesters.
