Three Buckeyes Named WCHA Players of the Week

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Three Ohio State women’s ice hockey players were named Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) Players of the Week, conference officials announced Tuesday. Senior Jincy Dunne (O’Fallon, Mo.) was named Defenseman of the Week, freshman Brooke Bink (Escanaba, Mich.) earned the WCHA Rookie of the Week and sophomore Andrea Braendli (Zurich, Switzerland) was named the WCHA Goaltender of the Week for the second week in a row.
Over the weekend, the No. 5 Buckeyes closed out the regular season with a conference sweep over St. Cloud State. Jincy Dunne posted a league-defenseman-high three points on the weekend from a goal and two assists. She scored the second goal in Friday’s 3-0 win and assisted a power play goal in Saturday’s 6-3 victory. Dunne also tied for the weekend lead in shots on goal with 10. Overall this season, Dunne leads the team with 67 blocked shots and has a team-high 25 defensive points from seven goals and a defense-high 18 assists. This is Dunne’s second Defenseman of the Week honor this season and fourth of her career.
Brooke Bink notched a team-high and conference-high two goals over the weekend as she lit the lamp in each game. She netted the third OSU goal in both games and now has five goals on the season. Her 12 points on five goals and seven assists make her tied for the points and assists lead among Buckeye freshmen. This is Bink’s second Rookie of the Week honor of the season as she was awarded Rookie of the Week after the first weekend of conference play.
Andrea Braendli posted two wins and her second shutout of the season in Friday’s victory. She tallied 22 saves on Friday for her eighth shutout of her career while notching another 22 saves on Saturday. She only allowed one goal on the weekend and has now allowed only three goals in the past four games while posting a combined 118 saves. She led the conference over the weekend with the highest save percentage (.978) and the best goals against average (0.54). This is Braendli’s second straight weekly honor and the sixth of her career.
Up next, the Buckeyes host Minnesota State in the first round of the WCHA Playoffs on Friday, Feb. 28.
