Chris Holtmann, Head Coach
On D.J. Carton:
Coaching freshman before, you see guys go through ups and downs. It’s really hard to make judgments, until you see guys go through the grind.
On Ohio State’s early rankings:
We don’t really know how good we are, until we get well into January. Obviously teams change and grow, but assumptions are made that are not always accurate. I’m really assessing us from day to day, and making sure we’re improving in target areas. Beyond that, the wider scope of things, I’m not really concerned with.
On how he is keeping his team healthy:
It’s a balance this time of year, as it always is, between guys getting better and keeping your guys fresh. It’s a constant conversation with our staff. There’s a mental fatigue too that you’re constantly trying to get a feel for. The reality is the mental grind and the mental toll really begins to take on a cumulative effect.
CJ Walker, Guard
On his team’s full potential:
We’ve played a lot of great games as a team, so we most definitely know what we’re capable of doing as long as we’re focused and staying engaged in the game for the full 40 minutes.
On the strength of the Big Ten conference:
The Big Ten is hard and everybody’s going to make shots and everybody’s ready to play. Big Ten is one of those conferences and you can’t really sleep on any team. We got to stay focused. We know what our potential is, and we’ve seen it before. So we know what we’re capable of doing.
