Quick Quotes: Men’s Basketball Previewing Wisconsin
1/2/2020 2:58:31 PM | Men's Basketball
Chris Holtmann, Head Coach
On Wisconsin:
They’re in a tremendous rhythm offensively and defensively. Well coached team, disciplined, older team with a number of guys that have been in their system and paid their dues…It’s a great test for us a great challenge for us. Obviously, they played exceptionally on the road last time out against Tennessee.
On playing without Kyle Young of Friday:
He’s had as good a junior year as anybody has had. We’re dealing with being banged up. Not an ideal time for this to happen, but we’ll have plenty of guys ready to step up…We definitely have more depth than we had last year. We have more balance this year and I’m interested to kinda see how we respond to losing a guy like Kyle.
On how he would describe this team:
We’re a young group that’s got some older guys that have kinda led the way here. It’s an exciting group to follow because of the blend of old and young guys, and the transformation in Kaleb’s body, and some of the young guys that have developed and grown. We’ve had some exciting wins. We’ve gotta earn the right to get to wherever we get to.
On crowd support:
It’s tremendous. It’s the first time where we’ve been here as a coaching staff and we’ve had this number of sellouts. I believe five of the last nine are sellouts, the rest are limited tickets. Now, we want everybody to show up that’s for sure…but I love it. Our players appreciate it.
On the team’s feeling after finishing the non-conference:
Given how we lost one non-conference game, certainly as a group we feel really good about that. Really good. I mean we should feel good about that and as a group I do think our players feel good. They understand it’s a whole different animal heading into league play.
Andre Wesson, Forward
On the importance of getting stops:
It’s going to be huge. That’s something we try to put our hard-hat on with this team. It is defense. Just trying to get stops and get defensive rebounds as well. Me and Luther, getting picked out by coach as defensive stoppers, is huge for us and this team moving forward.
Luther Muhammad, Forward
On his strong performance against WVU:
I feel like that just comes from working hard to be honest. I’ve got great teammates that won’t let me slack off and if I slack on defense in practice, they’re going to hit a shot. I just thank my teammates for that. It’s just preparation.
