Justin Fields, QB
On playing first game in Ohio Stadium:
Buckeye Nation showed out. They came and supported the team. I’m definitely glad to be a Buckeye, and I’m just excited for the rest of the season.
Larry Johnson, Associate Head Coach/Defensive Line
On defensive line’s performance:
I thought in the beginning of the game, we played really fast. I think our [players] did a good job of handling adversity. It was really cool to see how well we played in the first half.
Greg Studrawa, Offensive Line Coach
On offensive line:
I love those guys. I think they can be a tremendous offensive line. We’ve got a long way to go. We’re no where close where we need to be.
Jonah Jackson, OL
On what the team does well offensively:
I think we all know what we do well now. I feel there’s a lot we have to fix. We do a lot of things really well. It’s just a matter of executing every time.
Davon Hamilton, DL
On Luke Fickell:
He’s just a great leader overall. He was always prepared, always sound. We’ve got a lot to look forward to on Saturday.
Drue Chrisman, P
On replacing Terry McLaurin at punt gunner position:
I love Terry. He was probably the best in the business, but it seems like every year, somebody steps up.
Jeff Okudah, CB
On building off the defense’s early success:
Coach Hafley was telling us that’s one of the best first halves he’s seen, but the next step is to be able to develop four quarters and really show that the Silver Bullets are back.
On mixing in zone coverage during the opener:
We got a chance to really get our eyes on the quarterback, make good plays on the ball. I think you avoid receivers running you off. When you play too much press man, they start to run you off. It also saves your legs over the course of the game.
Pete Werner, LB
On what stands out about Cincinnati:
They’re big, tough up front. They’re tough guys. They’re just going to try to run down the ball and keep doing that and doing that. Their running back is tough and he will bounce off. We’ve got to key him, wrap him up, and really focus on tackling this week.
On what he’s seen from Baron Browning:
I can just see he’s more confident. He’s communicating a lot more. He’s running the ball, and you can just see that he feels better there on the field…He knows his importance this year.
Wyatt Davis, OL
On what he’s seen from Cincinnati:
They play very hard. They’re definitely very technique-sound. They’re going to come in here with a lot of energy. It’s going to be a good game, definitely.
On Justin Fields:
He is unbelievably fast, but we already knew this. Going in we knew that he was going to break off some big runs. Sure enough he did early in the game, and we were blown away by how fast he was.
Thayer Munford, OL
On returning from injury:
Man, it felt great. It’s been since December since I’ve gotten back out there. I did have some rough spots, but only during camp. When I was on the field on Saturday, I didn’t feel like I missed one beat.
On DL Jashon Cornell’s versatile skill set:
He’s a man of many talents. He can go with speed and you really don’t expect him to go speed with how he’s built. When he goes speed, you get caught off guard. He doesn’t get tired. He just goes hard.
Baron Browning, LB
On how better preparation has enhanced his comfort level:
That was one of my first games where I didn’t feel nervous before it. I just felt at ease about it, and I think that goes with how I’ve been approaching every day and every moment.
On Coach Washington’s impact in the linebacker room:
He’s pretty intense. It’s hard to describe. It’s one of those things you have to be there to witness. We always talk about setting the tone. The approach Coach Washington has in helping me prepare, that’s played a big role. Experience plays a role too, but I’d say Coach Washington [has been most helpful].
Chris Olave, WR
On making adjustments when the other team makes adjustments: We have different schemes for different teams. We try to adjust to them during the week so when it comes to the game it’ll be easy.
On playing on special teams: I love special teams. I want to be on the field to make an impact on all teams. Whenever I get on the field, I just try to do what it takes to win.
Jashon Cornell, DL
On Cincinnati being like a Big Ten team: They play dominant football. They run the ball, and that’s what Big Ten teams do. They’re here to come run the ball and we have to play the run. That’s what we have to worry about.
On knowing all the positions of the line: Our philosophy here is you want to know what the whole defense is doing. You want to know what the guys behind you are doing and what the guys behind them are doing. We play off each other, and we know where the next man is going to be.
