COLUMBUS, Ohio – A total of 20 players – seven on defense, 13 on offense – are this week’s champions following Saturday’s win at Indiana, as selected by the Ohio State coaching staff.
The Player of the Game on defense was CB Damon Arnette, who had two tackles, two pass breakups and returned an interception 96 yards for a touchdown. On offense, J.K. Dobbins’ 193-yard effort earned him Player of the Game honors. WR Chris Olave, who blocked a second quarter punt, was the Special Teams Player of the Game.
Eleven players have earned Champion honors after each game thus far: LT Thayer Munford, LG Jonah Jackson, C Josh Myers, RG Wyatt Davis, LT Branden Bowen, QB Justin Fields, WR Austin Mack, WR Chris Olave, SAF Jordan Fuller, DT Davon Hamilton and DE Chase Young.
The combination of Dobbins, Master Teague (10 carries, 106 yards, 1 TD) and the starting offensive line of Munford, Jackson, Myers, Davis and Bowen helped the Buckeyes rush for 306 yards on Saturday – its best output since the 2018 season opener against Oregon State. Ohio State’s 7.3 yards-per-carry average was its best since rushing for 8.0 yards/attempt vs. Michigan State in 2017.
On defense, Arnette’s 96-yard interception return – the fourth longest in school history – was complemented by an overall effort that limited Indiana to just 257 total yards and 42 on the ground. The Buckeyes currently rank 12th in total defense (252.7 yards/game), ninth in yards per play (3.85), fourth in rushing defense (57.0 yards/game) and 10th in scoring defense (10.3 points/game).
Olave’s blocked punt continued the Buckeyes’ early-season trend of big plays on special teams: in two of the first three games, Ohio State has blocked either a punt or field goal. Olave, who caught three passes for 70 yards and a touchdown, now has a blocked punt and TD reception in each of Ohio State’s last two Big Ten regular season games.
