BUCKEYES, BEARCATS TANGLE SATURDAY
Ohio State and Cincinnati meet for the fifth time this century on the gridiron when the two teams tangle in a noon kick at Ohio Stadium Saturday. Ohio State and Cincinnati last met during the 2014 season with the Buckeyes prevailing in an entertaining and hard-fought game, 50-28.
The week is the annual Hall of Fame game with three former Ohio State football players earning enshrinement: Boyd Cherry (1912-14), A.J. Hawk (2002-05) and Mike Nugent (2001-04). The rest of the class includes Justin Fry (baseball), Jim Foster (women’s basketball coach), Stan Lyons (men’s track and field), Thad Matta (men’s basketball coach), Andrew Pierce (men’s track and field), Natalie Spooner (women’s ice hockey) and RJ Umberger (men’s ice hockey).
Ohio State’s sesquicentennial will also be recognized at the game. Ohio State is celebrating its first 150 years of excellence in education, research, innovation and community engagement by reflecting on its remarkable past and preparing for its bold future.

• Founded in 1819 as Cincinnati College, the University of Cincinnati is the oldest institution of higher education in Cincinnati and has an annual enrollment of over 44,000 students, making it the second largest university in Ohio.
• UC is the originator of the co-operative education (co-op) model. The concept was invented at UC in 1906 by Herman Schneider, Dean of the College of Engineering at the time.
• The University of Cincinnati was the first institution to offer a bachelor’s degree program in nursing.

• Cincinnati coach Luke Fickell spent 21 seasons at Ohio State: five as a player (1992-96) and 16 as a coach, including on staff for the 2002 and 2014 national championship seasons.
• Ohio State Assistant AD for sports performance Mickey Marotti was UC’s strength and conditioning coach for nearly nine years, from 1990-98.
• Ohio State has won 41 consecutive games vs. Ohio schools, dating to a 7-7 tie with Wooster in 1924. All-time, the Buckeyes are is 181-48-15 vs. in-state schools
• Ten players on Ohio State’s roster from Cincinnati, including starters Drue Chrisman and Thayer Munford.
• Ohio State owns a 14-2 record all-time against Cincinnati with the most recent meeting coming in 2014, a 50-28 victory for the Buckeyes at Ohio Stadium. The Buckeyes have won 11 straight in the series dating back to a 29-0 win in 1900. Cincinnati’s two wins came in 1896 and 1897, respectively.
