QB: Justin Fields
On progress so far:
I think we’re making good progress and I think I have better chemistry with the receivers as we get more reps together.
On what he’s working on:
You have to build relationships with people and I’m working on becoming more of a leader…Today I was focusing on speed of drops and the pocket presence.
On winning the starting spot:
I think we’re all trying to get that spot but I have to take it day-by-day. I’m focusing on us as a whole and getting better everyday.
Special Team’s Coord./Asst. Secondary Coach: Matt Barnes
On developing punt returners:
You got to have a reliable guy back there…and we got to win the turnover battle. We got to have guys who work on consistency, but we also have to get the younger guys in position to get reps.
On who’s going to return:
We have a pool of guys we’re developing and we will continue to develop. As coaches, we have to be smart about who we’re using and when.
P: Drue Chrisman
On being the vet on the team:
I am the veteran guy on the team now; it seems like Sean (Nuernberger) was here forever. Every year is different but this year and this transition has been smooth. Probably the best first couple day we’ve had.
On the special team’s focus:
That has been the tip of our spear and that hasn’t changed one bit. There’s been no drop off. We plan on refining that aspect of our game.
LS: Liam McCullough
On what it takes to play at Ohio State:
Consistency is what it takes. Anyone can snap a ball, but consistency is what it takes…Am I making Drue’s job and Blake’s job as easy as possible? The snap is something they shouldn’t have to worry about.
Passing Game Coordinator/QB Coach: Mike Yurcich
They’re further along than they were in the spring so you know there has been some work while away.
On any noticeable improvements:
Not in one particular area, but we’re a bit more aware about timings with receivers. They’re all a bit different and we have to figure each other out. From an intellectual standpoint—there’s so much to it. We have to cover it all and start it again and break it down even more.
On QBing at Ohio State:
There’s a standard of quarterback play around there that’s the Buckeye standard. I think after we get into it and put some scrimmages together, we’ll have a better idea.
QB: Chris Chugunov
On camp so far:
We’re only three days in we have a pretty good handle on the plays…We’re very deep and in the midst of prep. We’re all taking reps and working in the weight room. We have to pay attention to the details.
