COLUMBUS, Ohio – SHEROS, a female student-athlete group aimed at creating a space for African American identifying individuals, in partnership with Redefining Athletic Standards (RAS), will host a Back 2 School Bash on Aug. 17 from 12-4 p.m. at Blackburn Community Center.
“SHEROS and RAS seek to bridge the gap between the student-athlete experience and the Ohio State community, while also having the opportunity to lead the next generation,” said women’s basketball forward Aaliyah Patty.
The community event will bring together more than 1,000 elementary and middle school students from the Columbus City Schools system and provide each of them with an opportunity to have fun and gain motivation to always follow their dreams. This purpose will be accomplished by offering the students free school supplies, food, games, music and allowing the students to interact with both current Ohio State student-athletes and alumni.
Ohio State student-athletes are encouraged to attend the Back 2 School Bash to interact with students and share their journeys that may inspire, motivate and reassure them that regardless of their goal, they can attain it.
Redefining Athletic Standards is a student organization founded by male student-athletes aimed at discussing issues on campus and creating events to help them to be defined by more than just the sports that they compete in.
