COLUMBUS, Ohio – Terry McLaurin, another in the line of exceptional performers and leaders for the Ohio State Buckeyes, was selected in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft by the Washington Redskins. McLaurin, the 76th overall pick in the draft, is the second Buckeye receiver selected in this draft and he is the fifth Buckeye overall to be picked.
While McLaurin’s play on the field was exceptional – he ranks among Ohio State’s top 15 receivers all-time in four categories – he’ll perhaps be remembered best for his leadership off the field. He graduated in three and a half years with a degree in communications and was twice voted by his teammates as a captain.

Few can match the resume of winning that McLaurin and his classmates enjoyed. He was a part of Ohio State teams that won a national championship in 2014, Big Ten championships in 2014, 2017 and 2018, and bowl games over No. 1 Alabama (in the 2015 Sugar Bowl), No. 8 Notre Dame (2016 Fiesta Bowl), No. 8 USC (2018 Cotton Bowl) and No. 9 Washington (2019 Rose Bowl).
McLaurin capped his career with a 35-catch, 701-yard season this past fall that included 11 touchdown receptions (second-most on the team). Those numbers helped him finish No. 6 in both single season (11) and career touchdowns (19) at Ohio State, No. 12 in single season yards per catch (20.0 in 2018) and No. 13 in career yards per catch (16.7). McLaurin’s touchdowns also came in the biggest games: he caught three TDs at Lucas Oil Stadium, in his hometown of Indianapolis, in Big Ten title game wins over Wisconsin and Northwestern in 2017 and 2018, respectively.

From Cathedral High School, McLaurin played in every game the past four years – 54 – and started 32 times. He was also a fine special team’s player, a “gunner” on a unit that finished fourth nationally in net punting (42.2 yards/punt) in 2018.
McLaurin is the 19th Buckeye receiver drafted since 2000, a total that is No. 1 nationally for the most receivers drafted during this time.
