COLUMBUS, Ohio – For the third time in the last four weeks, Ohio State junior JJ Wolf has been named the Big Ten men’s tennis Athlete of the Week.
Wolf and the Buckeyes won a pair of matches last week over ranked opponents and Wolf claimed four victories in those matches. After winning his doubles match 6-1 with partner Martin Joyce, Wolf took down No. 29 ranked Ryo Matsumura in impressive fashion 6-3, 6-0.
Against No. 12 Notre Dame, he and Joyce opened the day with a 6-1 win over the No. 17 ranked team of Richard Ciamarra and Tristan McCormick. He then topped No. 15 Alex Lebedev 7-5, 6-3 in singles play to help the Buckeyes claim their eighth win vs. a top-25 foe this season.
For the year, Wolf is a perfect 18-0 with 13 wins over ranked opponents. He’s also dropped just one set in a singles match this season. In doubles, he and Joyce are 10-2 at the No. 1 spot.
