Future Buckeye Gardiner Takes Gold With Canada

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Last month while the Buckeyes were doing battle with Wisconsin at the OSU Ice Rink a future Buckeye was on the other side of the world, trying to bring home the gold for her country. Jennifer Gardiner, set to join the team next season, helped the Canadian Under-18 team win gold at the 2019 International Ice Hockey Federation’s U18 Women’s World Championship in Obihiro, Japan last month.
Gardiner, a forward from Surrey, British Columbia, was no stranger to representing Canada on the U18 team after logging time in the summer of 2018 playing in the annual series against the USA U18 team.

Jump ahead to January and Gardiner is in Japan as the 2019 IIHF U18 tournament gets underway. She played in four games during the tournament, with none being bigger than the championship where Gardiner and her compatriots topped the USA U18 team, 3-2, in overtime to secure the gold.
“It was a surreal feeling to represent Canada against the top U18 female talent across the world,” Gardiner said. “It was incredible to bring home the gold alongside my 22 amazing teams, it was an experience I’ll never forget!”
In addition to her action with the Canadian U18 team, Gardiner has notched 89 appearances for the Greater Vancouver Comets where she’s tallied 89 goals and 87 assists for 176 points.
