Chris Holtman, Head Coach
On going up against UNC:
I have tremendous respect for their program and Coach Williams. He’s a Hall of Fame Coach, and an even better person. I think he has a team that’s young and talented like ours. I’m excited about this opportunity for the chance to go on the road, and all that goes into that.
On UNC’s style of play:
They have tremendous size and length among the front line. And they have tremendous depth. Last time we played them, we weren’t able to get close to the basket and score within their length and size. The things that they do really really well is their offensive rebounding. Those aren’t really things you can take away. He’s recruited to his style of play… they’re always going to be big and they’re always going to be physical. They’re going to score some in transition and we need to make sure that’s not a determiner in the game.
On preparing his team:
You prepare as well as you can as a coaching staff to prepare the guys for what to expect. Then the game sometimes takes a turn. Whether they are playing differently, or if you have to make adjustments within the game, and as much as possible it’s a lot for the guys. We’re trying to make sure the guys understand what to expect and how to prepare.
On his outlook moving forward:
One game is one game. This whole month will tell us a lot about our group. I think that we’re going to find out and learn so much. I’m not sure if we really know who we are as a group until we go on the road and we experience adversity.
Kaleb Wesson, Forward
On coaches preparing for the game:
Our coaches are ready for everything. With our preparation going in to each game, they prepare us at a different level that I don’t feel like every coach does at this level. It’s down to the details, we’re going to know everything and they are going to prepare us come game time.
On growing his game:
I haven’t really touched the surface, as far as rebounding and assisting, my numbers have gone up, as far as affecting the game, ultimately there are leaps and bounds I can still take.
CJ Walker, Guard
On North Carolina pushing the pace of games:
Set the tone, it’s something you have to do in each and every game and that’s what we we’re going to do for this one. We have to be able to control the game and the pace of the game and get what we want and try to control them defensively and offensively, stopping them in transitions and make them guard us well. It’s about finding that equal balance.
On playing in a top-10 matchup:
We just worry about today, and how we can get better today. We’re just going to worry about practice today and how we can get better within ourselves and put ourselves in the best situations possible. Just so happened to be that we’re a top ten team playing at North Carolina.
