COLUMBUS, Ohio – Freshman Madison Greene and sophomore Dorka Juhasz each scored 12 points but Purdue spoiled Ohio State's Big Ten opener on Saturday, winning 66-50 inside of St. John Arena.
Greene was 2-of-3 from long range and 4-of-4 from the foul line. She also grabbed a season-high four rebounds to go along with three assists and two steals. Juhasz, who is the reigning Big Ten Player of the Week, has now scored in double-figures in each of the last six games.
The Buckeyes shot just 31.7 percent from the floor which was their lowest percentage of the season. The Boilermakers also held a 45-26 edge on the boards which really was the difference in the game.
Purdue used a 7-0 run to open up a 26-16 lead midway through the second quarter but led by just seven at the break. The deciding quarter was the third as the Boilermakers when on another 9-0 run and outscored the Buckeyes 23-13 in the quarter. Ohio State was never able to mount any kind of run all game and that was thanks to Purdue's ¾ court pressure and its rebounding advantage.
Aaliyah Patty added eight points for the Buckeyes while Kierstan Bell chipped-in with seven points and Braxtin Miller had six points.
Purdue was led by Kayana Traylor's 15 points as she was 3-of-4 from long range.
The Buckeyes hit the road next week for a New Year's Eve date with the Golden Gophers of Minnesota. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m. ET from Williams Arena. Ohio State has won the last five game against Minnesota.
