Mike Yurcich, Passing Game Coordinator/QB Coach
On how much room there is for improvement for Fields:
I think we both can get better. I can become a better quarterback coach and he can become a better quarterback within the system. I think there’s a lot of room for improvement. You watch practice tapes, you see mistakes that shouldn’t be made, you know there’s room for improvement. On Fields’ toughness:
I think you’re finding out as the season progresses just how tough he is and you face tougher opponents. The Wisconsin game obviously he showed a lot of grit, a lot of toughness, he took some hits… I think his toughness has shown throughout the week and as the season progresses.
Jashon Cornell, DL
On his role as a leader:
I’m not much of a vocal leader, but I try to do as much as I can on the field to show that I’m trying to lead the team the right way. I’m in here on most days because I don’t have class because I’m a graduate, so I’m in here watching film just trying to what I can do to help the team, and seeing stuff that we might not see on the first day of watching film, I’m telling them “I noticed this about this player and this about that player,” and what we can do to help improve our skillset.
On how he is having fun playing football:
That’s the one thing that is different about this team from the previous year. The previous year I feel like we were so stiff. This year, we’re letting it loose. We’re having a lot of fun out there. We’re enjoying playing with each other. If you see what we have in the locker room now, it’s really different. The love we have for each other, the love we have for our brothers, we just want to go out there and have fun and play ball.
Justin Fields, QB
On if he’s surprised by the numbers he’s putting up:
I’m not really surprised by the numbers I’m putting up,
but I also feel like there’s room for me to grow. Coach Day was telling JK (Dobbins) and me, this offense hasn’t really hit, or even came close, to our potential. We’re just going to try to continue to grow each and every week and just try to get better as an offense. I feel like I could be putting bigger numbers up, but it doesn’t really matter what the numbers are or what the numbers say as long as we get the W each and every week, that’s all I really care about. On how the defense helps take pressure off him:
Having the defense there helps the whole team a lot, just giving the opposing offense three and outs, that definitely helps the offense with field position, and getting the momentum going our way. Having the defense doing what they’re doing on the field right now definitely helps the offense out a lot in terms of scoring and keeping the momentum going on our side of the ball.
Jordan Fuller, SAF
On taking pride in being ranked number 1 in the CFP rankings:
I guess so, but the way I’m wired and the way I know a lot of my teammates are wired, we see a bunch of mistakes we made on film, and other teams see that, so we’re just really focused on getting our stuff right. We don’t think we’re that good yet.
On how they’re holding each other to a higher standard:
I think the standard has always been the standard. Just being at Ohio State, you want to be the best in America at what you do. I think that’s always been the standard…but we definitely make way too many mistakes for us to be complacent.
Thayer Munford, OL
On not yet playing to their full potential:
We still have a lot to work on. What people see on TV, on the field, at the game, is nowhere close where we are right now, nowhere close. We miss assignments, of course, but at the same time, the reason why we keep blowing teams out is because of how hard we come off the ball and how fresh we are during the week.
Master Teague, RB
On making the most of his opportunities:
When my number’s called, I just try to do the best that I can. I don’t want to make that excuse of not getting into a rhythm. When they call me, they expect me to be great. So, I just want to do that.
Ben Victor, WR
On not thinking about rankings:
It’s more so focus, not listening to the outside noise. It’s worrying about your unit and your team as whole. What happens in here stays between us. We go out there every week and love each other and play for our brothers.
Justin Hilliard, LB
On his health and getting back onto the field:
I feel so much better. I was telling Coach Washington the other day this is probably the best I’ve felt since my last surgery. It’s a task coming back from surgery, but you got to push every day.
I think a big point of this defense and this team this year has been treat every game like a championship.
