Buckeyes in the NFL – Week 12

First W in Washington

Redskins QB Dwayne Haskins already notched his first NFL start a few weeks ago. Then, last week, he threw his first touchdown as a pro. The next big milestone? His first win, which he and Washington accomplished by defeating Detroit 19-16 on Sunday. Haskins completed 13 passes, five of them finding the hands of WR Terry McLaurin, for 156 yards. McLaurin ended the day with 72 yards receiving. “Simba” also ran the ball pretty efficiently to the tune of 28 yards on three carries. My Goodness, Mike

Saints WR Michael Thomas is perhaps the most productive player in the NFL this season, regardless of position. His 10 catches for 101 yards and a touchdown in a crazy 34-31 Sunday W over Carolina helped him surpass 100 catches on the year. Thomas has now totaled 104 receptions, 23 more than the next closest mark. His yardage total has reached 1,242 for the year, more than 100 yards above anyone else in the league. Bell’s Nose for the Ball

While Thomas has been the league’s most productive player, Saints SAF Vonn Bell has been one of its most underrated. The fourth-year DB continued his superb play in New Orleans’ win on Sunday, recording nine total tackles, a tackle for loss, and batting away a Panthers pass in the heart of the game. Through 11 games, Bell is his team’s second-leading tackler with 70 total, and leads the team in forced fumbles with two and fumble recoveries with four. (Image courtesy: neworleanssaints.com)

Smaller Bear Shines on SNF

A game between the NFC’s top two teams turned into another day at the office for 49ers DE Nick Bosa. “Smaller Bear” proved again why he’s a front-runner for NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year, turning in three total tackles, a tackle for loss, a fumble recovery, and a big sack that allowed San Fran to maintain its wave of momentum into halftime. The 49ers beat the Packers, 37-8. They may have the best defense in the NFL, thanks in part to Bosa, who could very well be the best defensive rookie in the NFL. (Image courtesy: 49ers.com)

Denzel Ward, “Lights Out”

Browns CB Denzel Ward is really hitting his stride in Cleveland’s defensive backfield. He’s now put together a string of solid games, including Sunday in a 41-24 W over the Dolphins. Ward registered three solo tackles, a pass breakup, and a tackle for loss. The former top-five pick is looking the part more and more, and although his coach, Freddie Kitchens, has been impressed, he knows Ward’s ceiling has not yet been reached.
