Buckeyes Finish First in Ohio State Invitational

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women's and men's swimming and diving teams finished day three of the 14th annual Ohio State Invitational in the lead as the No. 14-ranked women racked up 2,518.50 total points while the No. 16 men finished with 2,436.50 points.
"We have had a strong first semester of training and racing," Bill Dorenkott, Director of Ohio State Swimming and Diving said. "Our Fall Invitational was a terrific opportunity to gauge improvement as well as areas that need improving. I am very proud of our team, coaches and support staff. Ohio State Swimming and Diving has great momentum heading into the championship portion of our schedule."
Both the Buckeye men and the women took the lead from day one and continued the strong showing throughout the weekend to cap the meet off with two team victories. Senior Kathrin Demler was the highest women point scorer of the meet with 154 total points for the Scarlet and Gray. Senior Molly Kowal earned 123 total points for the Buckeye women while junior Katie Trace added another 114 points. In diving, Lexie Barker was the highest point scorer for the women with 93 total points. For the men, junior Paul DeLakis was the third highest point scorer of the meet and led the Buckeye men with 117 points. He was followed by Cameron Craig with 114 and diver Jacob Fielding with 112 total points.
Leading the way for the women in the final day of competition: Molly Kowal (first in the 1,650 free), Freya Rayner (first in the 100 free), Kathrin Demler (first in the 200 fly) and Lexie Barker on platform (246.70). Demler won four races throughout the three-day meet.
The men were powered by five victories on the evening: by Thomas Watkins (200 back), Cameron Craig (100 free), Jason Mathews (200 breaststroke), the 400 free relay team and Jacob Siler (platform).

SWIMMING FINALS – WOMEN
1,650-Yard Freestyle – An event that was a huge point producer for the Buckeyes with four of the top eight finishers led by a first-place swim from Molly Kowal in 16:03.23. Natalia Jaspeado and Nicole Fye finished in fifth and sixth, respectively, with times of 16:30.49 and 16:33.85. Sally Tafuto was eighth with a time of 16:39.60.
200-Yard Backstroke – Devin Landstra and Kristen Romano finished 11th and 12th in 1:56.38 and 1:56.49, respectively, in the consolation finals.
100-Yard Freestyle – Ohio State took three of the top four places in the championship final with Freya Rayner winning the race in 49.00 with Taylor Petrak and Luci Jurkovic-Perisa third and fourth, respectively, in 49.20 and 49.44.
200-Yard Breaststroke – Hanna Gresser and Molly Kowal took fourth and seventh, respectively, with times of 2:13.00 and 2:14.69. Josie Panitz took first in the consolation final with a time of 2:14.32.
200-Yard Butterfly – Kathrin Demler won her fourth race of the invitational with a win in the 200 fly in 1:55.01. Also scoring in the championship final for the Buckeyes was Katie Trace – eighth in 1:59.31 – and Natalia Jaspeado, who was ninth in 2:02.11.
400-Yard Freestyle Relay – The Buckeyes' top two teams finished in the top eight with the A team of Taylor Petrak, Lucija Jurkovic-Perisa, Katie Trace and Freya Rayner finishing second with a time of 3:17.15.
DIVING FINAL – WOMEN
Platform – Ohio State finished one-two in the competition as junior Lexie Barker won the event (246.70) and junior Genevieve Angerame placed second (244.40). Freshman Mackenzie Crawford finished seventh (200.70) to round out the Buckeyes who placed Top 10.
SWIMMING FINALS – MEN
1,650-Yard Freestyle – Junior Carson Burt took eighth with a time of 15:27.40.
200-Yard Backstroke – Thomas Watkins, first in the prelims, repeated in the championship final, taking first with a time of 1:43.16.
100-Yard Freestyle – Cameron Craig won the race with a time of 43.03 with Semuede Andreis fourth in 43.56 and Andrew Loy taking first in the consolation final in 43.40.
200-Yard Breaststroke – Ohio State picked up points in this event with four finalists. Jason Mathews and Paul DeLakis went one-two for the Buckeyes with times of 1:55.10 and 1:56.71, respectively. Evan McFadden was fourth in 1:58.29 and Connor Isings placed seventh in 2:00.83.
200-Yard Butterfly – Alex Dillman swam to a fifth-place finish in 1:47.02 while Daniel Gloude touched first in the consolation final with a time of 1:44.22.
400-Yard Freestyle Relay – Ohio State capped the meet with a victory in this relay with Paul DeLakis, Cameron Craig, Semuede Andreis and Andrew Loy taking first in a time of 2:51.56.
DIVING FINALS – MEN
Platform – Jacob Siler won the event with 397.40 points with Lyle Yost (371.80) and Jacob Fielding (343.90) taking second and third, respectively, for the third consecutive Buckeye sweep in the diving competition.
