More than 620 volunteers – 216 from the Ohio State department of athletics/business advancement – packed 209, 376 meals in less than 2 hours during the Pack/Shack Feed the Funnel event Tuesday.
The meals were loaded up that night and delivered Wednesday by student life staff with former Ohio State football player Ken Blair (1984 letterman) in his Buckeye football-themed tractor trailer rig.
Blair, whose family has driven trucks loaded with football equipment to Ohio State away games for 37 years, delivered approximately 47,000 bags packed with meals to three different Military Veterans Resource Center locations to feed the 140,000 food insecure military families in Ohio.
This year is the third for the event, which is a collaboration of the Kind Columbus initiative at the Columbus Foundation. More than 200,000 meals were packed and donated throughout Athens County, Ohio, last year.
