Birthdays are all about celebrating those that matter to us most on their special day. Today, is no exception as everyone’s favorite cheerful nut hits the big 54!
Brutus made his debut in the fall of 1965 and since then has been a major part of our lives in nearly every way.
With that in mind, we wanted to take a look back at some of the greatest memories we have shared with Brutus!
5. The CHAMP is HERE
This trophy is in prime position on Brutus’ mascot mantle! Brutus hoisted the hardware in 2015 as the Universal Cheerleaders Association Division I College Mascot National Champion and then took home the title once again this past year. It’s a trophy that nobody can be surprised by.
4. Corso’s First
ESPN’s Lee Corso donned a replica of Brutus’ head on the set of College GameDay in 1996. From there, it kicked off a Mascot Madness tradition that still lives on today!
3. Hall of Famer!
Largest gold bust ever, right! Brutus was inducted into the Mascot Hall of Fame back in 2007.
2. Dancin’ Debut: Brutus’ First Game
With the support of the Ohio Staters, Inc. student service organization, Brutus’ “parents” students Ray Bourhis and Sally Lanyon constructed a papier-mâché mascot for the Homecoming game against Minnesota on Oct. 30, 1965.
1. Brutus’ 50th Birthday Celebration
More than 108,000 of Brutus’ closest friends celebrated his golden birthday on Nov. 7, 2015. The Best Fans in the Land even sang “Happy Birthday” at halftime of the 28-14 win vs. Minnesota.
