• During the fall 2016 semester, 41,359 undergraduate students and 8,955 graduate students were enrolled at University Park campus, the largest in the Penn State system.
• Every February, thousands of students participate in the Penn State IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon (THON), which has been “dubbed by supporters as the world’s largest student-run philanthropy.” In previous years, participants stood for 48 hours nonstop and performed a line dance at least once every hour to stay alert. In 2007, THON was moved to the Bryce Jordan Center and now lasts 46 hours. It has raises millions of dollars annually for pediatric cancer care and research, generally through the Four Diamonds Fund. In 2014, THON raised a program record of $13.3 million.
• Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield, founders of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream, took a course on ice cream making at Penn State’s creamery.
FIVE NOTES TO KNOW
• Three of the last four meetings between Ohio State and Penn State have been decided by seven points or less.
• Saturday’s game will feature the nation’s No. 1 and No. 2-ranked scoring offenses. Both are averaging better than 50 points per game.
• The Buckeyes and Nittany Lions have the No. 2 and No. 3 longest active winning streaks, respectively, in FBS. Ohio State’s won nine straight while Penn State’s streak is at eight.
• Saturday will be Ohio State’s 42nd “GameDay” game, tying it with Alabama for the most by any program. Ohio State has a 28-13 “GameDay” record.
• Dwayne Haskins is the first quarterback in Big Ten history to throw for five touchdowns twice in the first four games of the season. He has a Big Ten-leading 16 TD passes thus far.
