
Ohio State Tops Samford in Three

OXFORD, Miss. – The Ohio State women’s volleyball team closed out the Rebel Invitational on a high note as it swept Samford (28-26, 25-19, 25-16) on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Buckeyes improve to 5-1 on the season while the Bulldogs drop to 2-4 overall.
Lauren Witte and Vanja Bukilic both had their third straight match with double-digit kills. Witte had 13 kills and six blocks while Bukilic notched 10 daggers and a pair of service aces. Mia Grunze was just shy of the duo with nine kills and six digs.
Olivia Dailey handed out 37 assists, dug 11 balls, had three rejections and laid down two aces. Hannah Gruensfelder led the defense with 17 digs, followed by Camry Halm (15).
SET 1: Samford needed to burn a timeout early in the opening set after Ohio State went up 6-9. The momentum began to shift as the Bulldogs tied the score at 20-all. The teams extended the rally as they traded points but the Buckeyes tallied the last three points on kills by Franklin and Bukilic with a Witte block to win the set, 28-26.
SET 2: Trailing 13-11, Ohio State posted five unanswered points, which featured three straight aces by Camry Halm, for a 16-13 lead. The Buckeyes did not relinquish their advantage as it cruised to a 25-19 victory.
SET 3: It was all Buckeyes in the final frame as they quickly jumped ahead 17-6. Samford attempted a comeback when it had four straight points to cut the deficit to 22-16 and force an OSU timeout. After regrouping, a Witte-Dailey block and kills from Grunze and Fry sealed the set, 25-16.
