Interviews, Practice, Beef Bowl Highlight Thursday at the Rose Bowl

LOS ANGELES – Ohio State’s second day in Los Angeles in preparation for the 105th Rose Bowl Game on Jan. 1 was highlighted by media availability, a spirited two-hour practice and one of college football’s most celebrated events: the 63rd annual Lawry’s Beef Bowl.
The day began at the Residence Inn LA Live with defensive coordinator Greg Schiano and four players – DE Chase Young, DE Jonathon Cooper, DT Dre’Mont Jones and LB Tuf Borland – meeting the assembled media for 30 minutes. The group discussed, among other things, its match-up against the Washington offense and experience in California over the last two days.
In the afternoon, the Buckeyes made their way back to the StubHub Center for another practice, which lasted from noon to approximately 2 p.m and occurred under clear skies with temperatures in the 60s. With gameday being five days away, it was designed as a typical Tuesday practice. The first 15 minutes were open to the media.
One of the most well-known Rose Bowl traditions, the Lawry’s Beef Bowl, has occurred every year since 1957. The event included video presentations and speeches by Tournament of Roses President Gerald Freeny, Lawry’s CEO and Chairman Richard Frank and head coach Urban Meyer. The menu? Only merely delicious: Roasted prime rib, mashed potatoes, creamed corn and apple pie a la mode for dessert. To top it off, center Michael Jordan had the honor of cutting the first piece of prime rib while Cooper spun the first salad.
Also honored at the Beef Bowl was SAF Jordan Fuller, who was selected as Ohio State’s scholar-athlete representative. Fuller carries a 3.81 grade-point average as a business major. The junior from Norwood, N.J. recently earned CoSIDA first-team Academic All-America honors. He was a second-team honoree in 2017. On the field, Fuller is second on the team with 72 tackles (53 solo) and has added four pass breakups and two fumble recoveries.
